Looking for an excellent value facial sun cream that the whole family will like using? I think I’ve found it with this new £14.99 launch, with it proving popular with both males and females
Whether you’re on holiday or not, you should be wearing SPF on your face every day, but it’s not always easy to find a nice formula that doesn’t feel too heavy or greasy – and that men, who perhaps typically aren’t used to using as many skincare products on their faces as women, like the feel of too. However, here’s one that recently got the thumbs up from both me and my boyfriend.
On a recent short holiday to Italy, where the temperatures reached around 22°C every day, we decided to streamline our suitcase by bringing just one facial sunscreen for us both to use, and the one we chose was BYOMA’s new Ultralight Face Fluid SPF 50, which costs £14.99 from Boots. Here’s why it was such a hit for use both…

First up – and useful to know if you’re thinking of packing it on holiday – the 50ml bottle is super slim yet easy to squeeze (shake it up first), meaning it’ll take up hardly any space in your toiletries bag.
It’s super high factor too – SPF 50 and broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection – meaning you’re defending your skin from the sun’s harmful rays as much as possible. It also contains hyaluronic acid, antioxidants and something called ‘cera-sun techonology’, which helps to calm redness from sun exposure. It’s also fragrance-free and non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t block pores.
What we both loved most about it, though, was, despite this high factor, it looks and feels weightless, leaving skin feeling moisturised yet not at all greasy. There’s also no white cast whatsoever, which my boyfriend especially appreciated, as this can sometimes be more noticeable in beards.
Boots shoppers have been loving it too, awarding it an impressive 4.6 stars out of five from dozens of reviews. “I’ve highly enjoyed using this SPF!” one person wrote. “It has a really great applicator which means I can apply straight to the face and not onto my palm first. I also find it doesn’t leave a white cast on my Indian skin, and it absorbs nicely without leaving me feeling greasy.”
“I am very happy with this. I have quite oily, reactive skin, and sunscreen often makes me break out. This one does not,” another review reads. “I find it works best if I apply it on top of the Byoma gel cream moisturizer, my skin does not seem to like it if I use the sunscreen instead of moisturiser. Leaves a healthy glow without looking or feeling too greasy.”
A third agreed: “This is fab, the texture is lovely, it’s easily absorbed with great coverage. I’m taking this on holiday as its a great size for me to keep in my handbag.”
One shopper, however, found that it pilled a bit under make-up, writing that “it doesn’t absorb very well in my skin and kind of flakes off (like the texture you get if you rub off glue from your skin). Definitely isn’t suitable for under make-up. Very disappointing as I love all the other Byoma products I have but will not be repurchasing this one.” One other user, however, suggested that it’s a good idea to wait five minutes after applying it before putting make-up over the top.
Here at The Mirror we’ve few a few other face SPFs that have also impressed us recently. I’m obsessed with Ultra Violette Future Fluid SPF 50+ Superlight Mineral Skinscreen, £38, (probably not one for guys though, as it does give a slight skin-evening effect), while our senior shopping writer Faith has been putting Holly Willoughby’s go-to tinted SPF to the test.
