Cardiff woman dies weeks after being hit by car as 18-year-old charged with murder

By staff19 October 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Kian Bateman, 18, was charged with the murder of 38-year-old Shelley Davies following the collision outside the 4th Glamorgan Homeguard Club in Caerau, Cardiff last month

A woman has tragically passed away weeks after a car ploughed into pedestrians outside a club in the Caerau area of Cardiff, according to South Wales Police. The force confirmed that Shelley Davies, 38, sustained injuries in the incident which occurred just before half past midnight on Saturday, 27 September.

The police revealed that Ms Davies died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff on Saturday, 18 October. They also announced that a man has since been charged with her murder.

Officers were called to Heol Trelai following reports that a car had struck several pedestrians. A substantial cordon was established, extending from Caerau Lane to Church Road, for much of the day as crime scene investigators conducted their work, supported by a significant police presence.

Photos from the scene showed investigators snapping pictures near a grass verge in the middle of the road outside the 4th Glamorgan Homeguard Club, reports Wales Online.

In a statement, South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police can confirm a 38-year-old woman injured in a collision in Caerau, Cardiff, last month has died and a man has been charged with her murder.

“Shelley Davies, 38, from Caerau, was injured during the incident and died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, yesterday (Saturday, October 18). Following the collision, an 18-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

“He was on bail pending further enquiries. Kian Bateman, of Caerau, Cardiff, has now been re-arrested and charged with the murder of Shelley Davies.”

The suspect is currently held in custody and is scheduled to appear at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 20, also facing charges for causing grievous bodily harm to a second victim.

Detective Inspector Mike Healy from South Wales Police expressed: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Shelley Davies as they come to terms with this tragic loss.

“Shelley’s family continue to be updated and supported by officers.”
