Carer, 45, with debilitating health condition sheds two stone in three months with at-home app

Kelly Denslow, who suffers from fibromyalgia, had been on the hunt for a weight loss solution after gaining weight during Covid

A British woman who works as a carer whilst running her own enterprise has revealed how she shed two stone using an AI coaching app, after previously attempting other approaches she claims were unsuccessful. In April this year, Kelly Denslow discovered an app called Simple, which not only helped her drop the pounds but also helped her understand it represents ‘a lifestyle change for not just myself but my family’.

Kelly embarked on her search for a solution following weight gain during Covid, and explained that a fibromyalgia diagnosis and being prescribed various medications had also affected her weight. The Simple app provides personalised daily workouts, science-backed coaching and nutrition analysis, to help individuals lose weight and feel healthier.

Simple states they are ‘reshaping the science behind weight loss, standing as an innovative alternative to the restrictive and ineffective diet industry,’ as reported by the Daily Record. Now, anyone wanting to try it can use the code REACH60 and save 60% off Simple Weight Loss Plans.

Kelly, who cares for her husband, explained: “I was looking for a diet that I could try. I did try a couple of the ones that I’ve done in the past, and unfortunately, it just wasn’t working, the weight wasn’t shifting, and the medication was just not helping whatsoever.”

After hearing about the benefits of fasting, she decided to try it and stumbled upon Simple. She said: “I downloaded the app in the middle of April, but I didn’t actually really go forward with using it consistently until early part of May, and in those three and a half months, I have now lost two stone.”

The Simple app is an AI coaching app designed to offer personalised daily workouts, science backed coaching and nutrition analysis, to help people shed the pounds and feel healthier.

She continued: “I still have halfway there really, I’ve still got a little way to go. But what I feel, how I feel with the app, is that it’s made me realise that fasting isn’t a diet, it’s a lifestyle change, and with that, I know that I will get to my own goal. The two stone in itself is definitely showing that I can achieve what I want to and it’s making me more aware, and it’s a lifestyle change for not just myself but my family.”

With millions of downloads and figures reaching over 17 million, the journey for users on Simple begins with a comprehensive survey covering health goals, preferences, past weight loss experiences and more. The app offers features like easy food logging and an intermittent fasting tracker.

Simple state: “The Simple method doesn’t include calorie counting, cutting out essential food groups, or weighing every bite. Instead, we prioritise safety and sustainability. So, we’ll coach you to lose weight through a behaviour change approach that teaches you how to meet your nutritional needs, get active, safely intermittent fast, and more.”

Its NutriScanner feature assists users in understanding their meal nutrition and daily exercise routines, while Avo is its AI-powered in-app coach and personal wellness companion. Kelly explains how Simple has revolutionised her everyday routine, stating that her discomfort levels have diminished and she has ‘a lot more energy in myself’.

Kelly insists it isn’t limiting, and she’s still capable of enjoying indulgences, with the added advantage of being more conscious of her food choices. She explains: “I have learnt to weigh everything and just be more aware of what I’m eating.

“As I said before, again, we do have treats, we do have desserts. You know, we have that odd chocolate bar. It’s not something I have often, but we do have it.”

The advantages of using Simple have also reached her household. Kelly shares: “My husband, he’s lost getting on for three stones. My daughter, she’s still young, growing, but she’s lost 10 pounds. So it just shows that it really does work, and it is a lifestyle change and not a diet.”

“I think it’s a really, really good app. It’s not essential that you go for the premium,” continues Kelly, noting that there is a free version of the app, but also paid-for subscriptions. “However, the premium is really, really good, especially when you’re first starting out.

“It gives you that sort of push. It gives you ideas of what to do as well. It just keeps you motivated. And I think once you see those results, it will keep continuing to push you to reach that end goal that you want to achieve.”

For an alternative, there’s Noom, a weight loss platform that focuses on mindful eating, not strict diets. Or there’s MyFitnessPal – a calorie tracker and BMI calculator designed to help people meet their targets and track their nutritional intake, with some free sections available on the app.

Other people using Simple shared their views on Trustpilot, with one person saying: “This app is one of the easiest ones to see if your food is on target without counting calories. It also reminds you when your eating window that you chose starts and ends. Must say it’s worth picking a coach. Really positive experience and gives you ideas on how to tweak what you eat to make it better for a balanced meal.”

Another user shared: “Absolutely amazing app. I have lost over one stone using this. There is always help at hand when I have my struggles. The app is very easy to use. Love it!”

One individual suggested room for improvement, saying: “Honestly, a super supportive app that doesn’t make me feel bad if I miss a day or something. I do wish it had more options for drinks (lemonade, for example is hard to track accurately) or an option to write in a drink or activities. Otherwise, it’s great.”

Another user noted about the free version: “It’s an easy way to track food and drinks. It’s too expensive for the upgrade so I just use the free version which pretty much does what I need.”
