Carlos Alcaraz beats Jannik Sinner to win US Open and land SIXTH Grand Slam title

By staff8 September 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Carlos Alcaraz ran away with the US Open men’s singles final, getting the better of Jannik Sinner in four sets after a devastating performance at Flushing Meadows

Carlos Alcaraz has denied Jannik Sinner back-to-back US Open titles, destroying his opponent in a comprehensive victory. The Spaniard beat his Italian opponent in four sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Alcaraz now has six grand slam titles at the age of just 22. He has achieved the feat at a younger age than compatriot Rafa Nadal, with Bjorn Borg the only player to hit the milestone at a younger age.

With victory, Alcaraz has returned to the top of the world rankings. It was the third time this year that he and Sinner have met in a grand slam final, but Sinner was barely in with a chance as his opponent dominated.

Alcaraz raced into an early lead, winning the first set while some fans were still waiting to enter the Arthur Ashe Stadium amid delays related to security around Donald Trump’s appearance. Sinner rebounded to take the second, but from there it was all Alcaraz.

Sinner saved two championship points in the fourth set, coming back from 40-15 down to deuce. Alcaraz made no mistake at the third time of asking, though, completing a comprehensive victory. The set he dropped against Sinner in the final was the only one he dropped all tournament long, as he showed his quality throughout.

Carlos Alcaraz’s dressing room behaviour at US Open emerges after private conversation

“I’ve never seen Alcaraz serve like that,” former British No.1 Tim Henman said during Sky Sports’ coverage. “You think about the great servers in the game, and I now have to put Alcaraz in that category.

“Against one of the great returners, Alcaraz’s serve was absolutely phenomenal. He was able to hit his spots with such pace and consistency.

“He gave Sinner so few opportunities to get into those service games, and it gave Alcaraz the opportunity to play with even more freedom, unleashing. You can see the joy of that performance. It was complete.”

“Carlos and his whole team are doing amazing, and I know there was a lot of hard work behind this performance today and it was better than me so congratulations, it’s a great moment for you,” runner-up Sinner said. “I tried my best today and I couldn’t do more. The fans here are amazing, seeing packed stadiums. This place is so, so special.”

Alcaraz also had kind words for his beaten opponent. “It’s unbelievable what Jannik has done throughout the whole season, a great level in every tournament,” he said.

“I see you more than my family! It’s great to share the court, locker room and everything with you, watching you improve.

“This tournament is incredible and it’s a privilege to be a part of it. I feel at home here and feel the energy and love. You (the fans) make everything easy.”
