Carlos Alcaraz shows off another dramatic new look after US Open mishap was saved by brother

Carlos Alcaraz has shown off his new platinum hair do which comes after he sported a buzzcut – which was masterminded by his brother – en route to winning the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz has shown off another new look as he undergoes a radical hair colour change just days after claiming another US Open title in New York – which saw him rise back to No 1 in the rankings.

The Spaniard avenged his Wimbledon loss and downed Jannik Sinner in four sets at Flushing Meadows to claim his second Grand Slam of the year and his sixth overall. Throughout his time in America Alcaraz had donned a buzzcut.

But he’s now embarked on another change which is thanks to his long-time barber Victor, who bleached his hair platinum once he returned to his hometown of Murcia in Spain – which he’s since posted on social media.

Alcaraz had hinted that another change to his hair was on the cards when he was quizzed on his celebration plans: “(Something) even better. Even better. You will see. You will see. Surprise. Surprise.”

The 22-year-old’s haircut had been a major talking point throughout the US Open with Alcaraz later admitting his brother Alvaro had got the clippers out to try and save an initial disaster.

He had told reporters: “My brother misunderstood with the machine he cut it and the only way to fix it is to shave it off. To be honest, it’s not that good. Its not that bad, I guess.”

It clearly didn’t hinder the Spanish sensation as he ruled New York for a second time – adding to his success in 2022. It wasn’t until the final that Alcaraz even lost a set as he saw off Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. He then continued his impressive record against Sinner, whom he also beat in the French Open final.

Alcaraz admits he was humming throughout his time at the US Open as he hit peak form: “In general, I think it has been my best level during the two weeks. Since the first match until the final I think I’ve been playing great tennis.

“The focus was really, really high. I didn’t lose the focus at all in any of the matches, which I’m really happy about. With the serve, I’ve been really focused on it. I got broken just three times, once in the final. In general, I just played amazing tennis.”

His victory means that, since the start of 2024, he and Sinner have shared the last eight Grand Slams – winning four each. The pair have also contested three of the four finals to take place this season and the Spaniard joked: “I see you more than my family. It’s great to share the court with you.”

Legends of the Ryder Cup special edition

Legends everywhere you look – and we celebrate them in this special edition as Europe and the USA prepare to do battle again in New York.

The great Tom Watson once said: “The Ryder Cup creates idols. It creates legends. It creates memories that last.” He was spot on.
