Champagne sold at one supermarket ‘best in the world’ – and it’s super cheap too

Champagne can be expensive but one supermarket in the UK has a special bottle that is just as good – and it costs significantly less than you’d expect it to while still tasting lovely

Champagne, the epitome of luxury and elegance, is typically reserved for special occasions due to its hefty price tag, which is a result of its unique and time-consuming production process. In the UK, shoppers can expect to shell out anything from £23 upwards for a bottle in a supermarket, with high-end bottles starting at around £40. A bottle of Moet and Chandon at Sainsbury’s will set you back £45, while their own brand Taste the Difference bottle is priced at £26.

A bottle of Lanson at Tesco will cost you £43, while a bottle of Nicolas Fueillatte is priced at £28.50. A bottle of Heidsieck and Co Blue is priced at £33.98 at Asda, and there is a cheaper option of Blondel Champagne on sale for £23.98 – down from £27.96.

However, Aldi offers a significantly cheaper alternative that doesn’t compromise on quality. Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut has been crowned World’s Best Champagne at the prestigious World Champagne Awards 2025.

The budget-friendly bottle, priced at just £14.95, beat out its luxury competitors.

Aldi describes this bubbly delight as “crafted to perfection” from a classic blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, and matured in cellars to enhance its complexity and length. The beverage boasts aromas of ripe apple, soft red fruit, and delicate florals.

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK: “To have our £14.95 Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut recognised as the best in the world is proof that exceptional quality doesn’t have to come with an eye-watering price tag. It’s a proud moment not just for Aldi, but for our customers who can enjoy world-class champagne without breaking the bank.”

A viral wine enthusiast, known as the Affordable Wine Hunter, has also given the bubbly his seal of approval.

The bargain sleuth, who takes pride in discovering quality wine at budget-friendly prices, said: “Aldi Champagne has been named ‘World’s best Champagne’. That’s a brilliant accomplishment for their £14:95 Monsigny. It’s also scooped a load of other accolades too.”

He continued in his Instagram clip: “I can’t say I agree that this is the finest there is. However, I have posted about it in the past and do really like it – but think I might rate it as ‘best in its price range’ . You’d be hard pressed to find superior for fifteen quid.

“Run, don’t walk,” one commented on the post as they tagged a champagne-loving mate.

“The reason we need an Aldi trip,” agreed another. “We need to try for research purposes,” joked another beverage enthusiast.

A devotee of Aldi’s champagne shared: “I’ve been buying it for years! Right back when it was only £9.99 a bottle! Still great value at its current price to be fair.”

Another said: “I have it every Christmas, it’s very nice and doesn’t cost the earth.”

Aldi’s Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut is now available in stores across the country.
