Dexter Henson, the son of Welsh rugby legend Gavin Henson and singer Charlotte Church, has made his TV debut after deciding to follow his parents into showbiz
Dexter Henson, the son of Welsh rugby legend Gavin and singer Charlotte Church, has stunned viewers after appearing on television screens on Monday evening.
The 16 year old featured in the BBC film ‘Waiting for Burton’, which chronicles a young girl’s fascination with actor Richard Burton’s work. Dexter takes on the supporting character of Rhydian in the short film, marking what seems to be his acting debut following his decision to ditch rugby.
“It was good,” he revealed in a chat with It’s My Shout, the film training programme responsible for the production. “It was my first time working on a set, so it was a bit new for me. It was great. I was well looked after. Philip Jones, the director was great. He was a mentor so he helped me out a lot. It was really exciting. I really enjoyed myself.

“It’s a more recent passion. I was more into the rugby since about the age of five. But I’d sort of had enough of it, so I wanted to try something different.
“I love it.”
Seeing Dexter on screen may well surprise many, though he did grab attention last month during a rare public outing with his mum at the BAFTA Cymru Awards. Numerous people remarked on the teenager’s likeness to his dad, with Dexter also dwarfing his mother as they strolled down the red carpet.

Charlotte and Gavin were regarded as Wales’ celebrity power duo throughout the 2000s but split in 2010, following five years as a couple.
Both have since remarried. Henson Snr has rekindled his love for rugby in the past few years, coming out of retirement to play for local club Pencoed RFC.
