Hailed as the “perfect” little town, people looking for a day trip in the UK may want to give this North Yorkshire town a visit – and it’s not York.
Pateley Bridge, a quaint town in North Yorkshire’s Nidderdale, has been dubbed the “perfect” day trip destination by fellow journalist Samantha Teasdale. The YorkshireLive reporter praised the town for its array of local produce, ample parking facilities and a gallery that boasts original film posters worth up to £170,000.
With plenty of affordable short and long-stay car park spaces near the town centre, it’s easy to “pop back any time to put your shopping in the car”, ensuring a baggage-free exploration of the town. Visitors can easily navigate the high street’s shops, restaurants and attractions without resorting to Google Maps, thanks to clear signposting.
And attractions include The Oldest Sweet Shop, trading since 1827, Cocoa Joes, home to the “country’s best hot chocolate”, the Nidderdale Museum, and The Tordoff Gallery.
Further down the hill, you’ll find a range of takeaways, including a traditional British fish and chip shop and a pancake house.
There’s even a “secret area” tucked away amongst historic buildings, offering more shopping and dining options.
The quaint charm of Pateley Bridge was praised by the reporter for its “celebration of local produce”.
The Crown Inn pub takes pride in sourcing meat directly from village butchers, reflecting a community-wide commitment to local produce.
Samantha, who reported on the area, found herself enamoured with the North Yorkshire town, remarking: “I cannot say a bad thing about the beautiful North Yorkshire town.”
She enjoyed a splendid day out before her return and, though she visited in winter, Samantha is eager to experience Pateley Bridge in the summertime for further exploration.
Despite her desire to see Pateley Bridge under the sun’s gaze, Samantha attests to its all-season appeal: “It really is a place where you can visit in all weathers as it has everything you could possibly need.”
It comes as there’s another town tucked away in the Yorkshire Dales that ‘everyone should visit at least once in their lifetime’.
Helmsley, found in North Yorkshire, serves as the perfect weekend getaway and is less than two hours’ drive from Greater Manchester.
Close to Pickering and Thirsk, the region is home to countless beautiful walking trails, with the magnificent Rievaulx Abbey merely a short stroll away.
The Cistercian abbey, built around 1130, was amongst England’s most important abbeys until its seizure in 1538 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
Today, the exceptionally well-preserved ruins stand as a popular tourist attraction that opens its doors all year round.
