Charming UK town spot is the ‘coolest seaside spot in Britain’

By staff2 April 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Tynemouth in Tyne and Wear, England was named as one of the UK’s top coastal destinations to visit and one of the best places to live in England – it’s easy to see why

Tynemouth, nestled in the north on the Tyne and Wear coast of England, boasts romantic vibes with its medieval castle standing proudly above the North Sea. Previously described by Time Out as “Britain’s coolest seaside town” and earning recognition for its alluring appeal, Tynemouth shines with three golden beaches, rugged cliffs and historic landmarks adorned with Georgian elegance along its waterfront.

This enchanting location also captured a spot in the Sunday Times’ list of ‘best places to live’ in 2024, celebrated for its “bohemian vibe and laid-back lifestyle” that magnetizes artists, writers, and musicians, drawn by its rich history and stunning natural beauty.

Travelling to Tynemouth is a breeze thanks to regular metro services delivering you from Newcastle in just 25 minutes, while London is but a three-hour train journey away, as shared by Vicky from @mackemlife_ on Instagram.

Upon arrival, dive into the bustling marketplace adjacent to the train station, where over 150 stalls overflowing with street food, local produce, antiques, art, jewellery, plants, and more await you. Housed within the charming old Victorian train station, this dog-friendly market promises an enjoyable experience rain or shine.

However, the town boasts the stunning Tynemouth Castle and Priory, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding area and a 2000 year old history that began as an Iron Age settlement, reports the Express.

Nestled at the foot of the castle is King Edward’s Bay, an award-winning beach encased by cliffs, known as the perfect summer relaxation spot.

Also within reach is Longsands Beach, just a 10-minute stroll from the metro station, and Long Sands North Beach, adjacent to a family park packed with fun activities and a local aquarium.

One of the most distinctive spots in Tynemouth is the Land of Green Ginger, a repurposed church now serving as a shopping arcade, dubbed the town’s “hidden gem” by Chronicle Live.

For those who enjoy a leisurely walk or bike ride, the Tynemouth Lighthouses are a must-visit. These three Victorian lighthouses still operate today, offering stunning views of the coast and castle.

The ideal time to visit any seaside town is during the summer, and this holds particularly true for Tynemouth. The town hosts the Mouth of the Tyne festival, a weekend of live music and performances at the castle, featuring Rick Astley this coming July.

Regardless of the season, Tynemouth is always a great place to visit. Known for its stunning beauty, rich history, and vibrant cultural events, it’s definitely worth making the trip at least once.
