Chelsea announce two new signings from Premier League rivals

Chelsea have confirmed the signings of Riley Ebho and Jashayde Greenwood, who have both joined the club’s Under-18s squad after impressing the Blues with their talent

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of two promising youngsters, Riley Ebho and Jashayde Greenwood, from Premier League rivals West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively, bolstering their Under-18s squad.

“Chelsea is pleased to confirm the addition of two new players to our Under-18s after Riley Ebho and Jashayde Greenwood signed scholarship terms with the Blues,” read a statement on the club’s official website. “Ebho is a talented right-back who joins Chelsea from West Ham United.

“The 16-year-old impressed last season, consistently featuring for West Ham’s Under-18s, despite still being a schoolboy. He found the net for his first goal at that level in their away draw with Tottenham Hotspur.

“Centre-forward Greenwood has also been added to our Under-18s squad, arriving from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has already competed in the Under-18 Premier League, showing maturity and physicality beyond his years while scoring once in seven appearances, as well as representing England across various youth levels.”

The Blues’ Under-18s are currently enjoying a strong start to the season, sitting second in the south table, just one point behind Arsenal, albeit having played one game more. Their latest triumph was a 4-1 comeback victory against West Brom, under the guidance of Hassan Sulaiman.

The young Blues’ head coach opened up about the upcoming season and a variety of other subjects at the beginning of September.

“I’ve really enjoyed the start of the season,” he said, as reported by the Chelsea website. “It’s been fantastic to get a proper look at all the players in our current squad.

“Of course, we’ve seen several lads move up to the youth team. Some I was already familiar with from last season, but it’s also been beneficial to observe the Under-16s, and even some of the Under-15s, who joined us during pre-season. It’s been an excellent chance to evaluate them and gauge their future potential.

“We’ve only played a few matches so far, but the most encouraging aspect has been witnessing the overall potential of the group. Every year we greet a new batch and there’s always a buzz about what they might contribute. This season is about ensuring we challenge them and extract the best from them.”

Discussing the principles he expects his team, now featuring Ebho and Greenwood, to uphold, he continued: “As an academy, our values are incredibly important.

“First and foremost, we want the boys to be brave. Brave with the ball and brave without it. Another crucial value is demonstrating some edge. We want to see that edge in performances and in training.

“Competition elevates standards. If we can foster that competitiveness, it will aid us in achieving the best possible outcomes while cultivating strong, resilient players.”

Chelsea U18s are back in action this Saturday for a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur.
