Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino are set to join Borussia Dortmund as Chelsea look to balance their transfer books with eight days to go in the summer window
Chelsea’s summer clear-out continues at pace with Carney Chukwuemeka and Aaron Anselmino the latest to pack their bags for Borussia Dortmund, taking the Blues’ income from sales past a jaw-dropping £270 million.
Chukwuemeka, 21, who lit up Dortmund on loan last season, is going back to the Bundesliga outfit permanently in a £24 million deal with a tasty sell-on clause and the England Under-20 ace snubbed RB Leipzig to return to the Westfalenstadion.
That deal alone rockets Chelsea ’s sales to a League-leading £273.4 million that almost cancels out the £277 million splashed on signings. The exodus comes after Uefa slapped the club with a £26.7 million fine for breaching their squad cost ratio rules and warned owners Clearlake Capital that they must post a positive balance if they want to register their shiny new recruits for the Champions League.
Meanwhile, Argentine starlet Anselmino, 19, is off to Dortmund on loan – although the deal does not include an option to buy. Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has told the teenager that minutes at the Bridge will be at a premium this season but he remains earmarked for a role in the future.

Chukwuemeka departs after 32 appearances since his £20 million switch from Aston Villa, though his period at the club was impacted by a series of injury problems.
And the drama’s far from over in West London. Chelsea still want two more big names before the window shuts on September 1 – with Manchester United ’s unwanted wideman Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig starlet Xavi Simons on their radar.
But the exit door is expected to be even busier: Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Tyrique George could all go ahead of the deadline, while a ‘bomb squad’ of up to nine stars – including Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Axel Disasi – are bracing for the chop.
Chelsea recorded a convincing first win of the season away to a dismal West Ham on Friday night, with new arrivals Joao Pedro, William Estevao and Liam Delap standing out in a 5-1 thumping of their cross-town rivals despite Cole Palmer picking up an injury during the warm-up.
“The start was not the best in the way we planned with Cole Palmer’s injury and conceding a goal after five minutes, but the reaction from the players is something that is very good to me,” Maresca said.
“Especially you could see how confident they were about the game plan. They stuck to the game plan on and off the ball and continued in the same way. I am very happy, very impressed.”
