A doctor in Malaysia was shocked to find the cause of a child’s ear pain after finding hundreds of ticks in her inner ear
A doctor was left stunned after finding hundreds of ticks inside a child’s ear. The child’s mum, Aqila Nasir, became concerned after her young daughter, Hafya, repeatedly kept complaining of pain.
Hayfa, whose age was not disclosed, reported pain in her ear, but her mum couldn’t spot anything amiss after checking with a torch, and assumed it was a pimple.
But when the pain had travelled down to her neck the next morning and the girl became lethargic, Aqila took another look – and saw tiny black dots in her ear.
The pair went to the doctor and Hayfa was treated by a specialist, who made the gruesome discovery of hundreds of ticks. A shocking video shared by the worried mum, from Malaysia, shows a scan of her child’s inner ear carried out by the doctor, says NeedToKnow. The ticks can be seen in every direction and appear to be clustered together.
Doctors removed the ticks as quickly as possible, warning that if they did not move fast, the ear could become infected. They stated that Hayfa might feel pain during the process, however she is thought to have handled it well.
After removing the ticks, her ear was thoroughly cleaned to rid of any eggs left behind by the parasite. Hayfa was sent home and given painkillers for several days.
It is not known how long the ticks were inside her ear for and isn’t clear how they got there in the first place. Aqila suspects that there is a possibility this could have been caused as her daughter likes to play with stray cats.
She has since urged mothers not to ignore their child in instances where they complain of pain, and to take them straight to a doctor. Aqila wrote in a Facebook post: “Lessons for mothers – don’t ignore your child’s complaints of pain.”
