Singer Chris Brown was not expected to attend court in Friday, October 24, but made a surprise appearance at Southwark Crown Court for a case management hearing today
Chris Brown has made a surprise appearance at a court hearing today, ahead of his trial for an alleged nightclub attack.
Brown, 36, was not expected to attend the case management hearing at Southwark Crown Court today. But he attended the hearing in the London court, where he spoke only to confirm his name.
Brown appeared in the dock alongside his co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, 38. Earlier this year Brown pleaded not guilty assault occasioning to actual bodily harm and denied having an offensive weapon – a bottle – in a public place.
He also denied the more serious charge of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm in a previous court hearing.
The Go Crazy singer was charged earlier this year over an alleged incident in London club, Tape, in 2023, where music producer Abe Diaw was allegedly attacked. He denies the charges.
Brown’s co-defendant Akinlolu, who performs under the name HoodyBaby, also pleaded not guilty to causing actual bodily harm.
Brown and Akinlolu’s trial is set to begin in October 2026.
The singer was previously arrested at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester earlier this year after discovering he was in the country. A Met spokesman said: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He had been taken into custody where he remains.
“The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.”
He was initially held on remand but was later released on bail by a London court, in which he was ordered to pay a £5 million security fee.
The singer then went on to perform his Breezy Bowl XX tour across Europe. Brown’s tour has since wrapped up.
After his tour concluded, Brown posted a series of highlights on his Instagram page and wrote: “TEAM BREEZY. I wanna say thank you sooooo much for the love and support all these years. I was able to accomplish my wildest dreams with you all.
