Singer Chris Brown was reportedly arrested at a hotel in Manchester in the early hours of Thursday morning following an alleged bottle attack incident in London in 2023
Singer Chris Brown was reportedly arrested at a hotel in Manchester over an alleged bottle attack from 2023.
The singer is said to have been arrested in the early hours of Thursday morning regarding the incident at a London nightclub. The arrest happened at just after 2am at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester.
It’s said Brown was held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw at trendy Tape nightclub in Mayfair, Central London, in February 2023. The alleged arrest came a day after Brown had flown into the UK.
It’s said the arrest took place after it was discovered the star was in the country. Met detectives are said to have travelled to Manchester where they arrested him.
While police forces didn’t name Brown, they issued a statement on the arrest. Greater Manchester Police issued a statement on the Lowry Hotel arrest, saying: “This morning (Thursday 15 May) we arrested a 36-year-old man at a hotel in Manchester on suspicion of grievous bodily harm on behalf of the Metropolitan Police.”
A Met spokesman also said: “A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains.
“The arrest relates to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on 19 February 2023. The investigation is being led by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.’’
Mr Diaw claims Brown attacked him unprovoked while the star and his entourage were at a Dirty Martini club night held at the trendy Tape nightclub. He alleged the singer hit him over the head with a bottle and then punched and kicked him as he lay on the floor.
At the time following the alleged incident, Mr Diaw said: “He hit me over the head two or three times. My knee collapsed as well.”
Mr Diaw was taken to hospital and needed crutches to walk following his discharge. The alleged attack occurred while songwriter Brown was on a worldwide tour and playing in the UK.
Diaw launched a civil claim against Brown for $16 million (£12 million) in damages for injuries and losses suffered as a result of the alleged attack.
Brown was set to release another 10 British performance dates next month, but the tour could now be thrown into jeopardy due to the police investigation.
He previously announced his Breezy Bowl XX Tour to celebrate his 20 year career. During the tour, Brown was set to play gigs at the Co-Op Live stadium in Manchester. He was then expected to perform again at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff before a potential huge show at Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium in London. Gigs in Birmingham, Glasgow and Dublin were set to follow.
He announced his tour in March and shared his excitement on Instagram at the time. He wrote: “CELEBRATING 20 years of CB. So excited to be able to share this moment with the world and my amazing fans.
“I CANT WAIT TO SEE ALL YALLS BEAUTIFUL FACES. IMA TAKE YALL THREW THESE ERAS BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY GIVE YALL MY HEART AND SOUL.”
