The British stars are set to renew their long-time family feud later this month, but one major star within boxing believes Eubank Jr is already making excuses ahead of the dust-up
Eddie Hearn believes Chris Eubank Jr is “getting the excuses ready” after the Brit showed off his grim blisters ahead of the Conor Benn showdown.
The long-time rivals are set to renew their family feud and will be looking to settle the score once and for all on April 26 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London. With just over a week to go until the blockbuster showdown, Eubank Jr is clearly leaving no stone unturned in preparations for the contest. Eubank Jr, 35 recently shared a gruesome picture of his heavily blistered foot. The British boxing star captioned the snapshot: “Boxing is as easy as it looks I promise. 6am run tomorrow is going to be so much fun… can’t wait.”
The Instagram post has since gone viral on social media, with Benn’s promoter Hearn weighing in on the picture. He told Boxing Social: “It’s the David Haye toe, I don’t know, but maybe he’s getting the excuses ready, you wouldn’t pull the blister excuse, would you, really?”
Eubank Jr and Benn were originally scheduled to go head-to-head back in October 2022. However, the son of Nigel Benn was removed from the clash just a few days before fight night after two failed pre-fight drug tests came to light – which eventually saw his British Boxing Board of Control licence removed.
The 28-year-old has since had his provisional UK Anti-Doping ban lifted and is now cleared to fight in the UK. Millions are set to tune in later this month, and given how much attention it’s getting, it’s very much likely that fans will see the two rivals clash in the ring again after Eubank Jr confirmed that there is in fact a rematch clause.
“This is a fight that the fans are demanding,” he told Ariel Helwani. “They have been demanding it for years. This fight is bigger than boxing. It’s mainstream in the UK. In the UK, it’s probably bigger than a Canelo fight because the general public don’t know who Canelo is. The boxing fans do but the general public don’t because the general public aren’t boxing fans. They don’t know anything about boxing.
“This is a fight where you’ve got kids, you’ve got grandmas, you’ve got people that don’t know or care about boxing at all and they are going to be at that fight. This is a very special thing we have here so people ask me about what I’m going to do next, I have no interest in even thinking about it because this fight is so huge for me and I cannot wait to get in that ring.”
