A murder investigation is underway after a 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead in Clapham, south London, this afternoon following reports of gunshots in the area
A 16-year-old boy has died after being shot in Clapham, south London, this afternoon, according to Metropolitan Police.
Officers were called at around 3.20pm to reports of a shooting in Paradise Road and attended with an Air Ambulance, as well as ambulance crews. Despite the best attempts at the scene, a 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Met Police officers are currently attempting identify the teenager and contact his next of kin. A murder investigation has begun. Superintendent Gabriel Cameron, who is leading the local policing response, said: “This is an enormously shocking incident which I imagine will cause huge distress to the local community.
“Our thoughts are with the young boy’s family at this devastating time. Local officers are on the scene gathering CCTV and speaking to witnesses to piece together what has happened.
“They will be supported by specialist homicide investigators shortly. Please rest assured we will work around the clock to identify and find those responsible.”
A police cordon remains in place at the scene in south London this afternoon. Officers are yet to make any arrests as the investigation gets underway.
A crime scene and cordons remain in place while emergency services undertake their enquiries, which are ongoing.
