Cleaner says ‘forget everything else’ but 1 thing for shower glass

By staff3 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

You don’t need a massive selection of pricey cleaning products to tackle dirty shower glass, as there’s one thing that’s said to be ‘so satisfying’ to use.

Shower screens become stained mainly due to hard water deposits, commonly known as limescale. Soap residue can also contribute to the problem if the limescale or soap build-up isn’t cleaned away regularly.

These deposits can actually scratch the glass surface, leaving it looking grubby all the time, even following a thorough clean.

Routine cleaning or simply wiping down with a squeegee after every shower helps prevent build-up and maintains a spotless shower.

But if you’re struggling to get rid of stubborn marks, cleaning fans have revealed their go-to products, reports the Express.

Posting on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Lisa Evans wrote: “I’m struggling with water marks and limescale on my shower screens. My parents used to have a spray and it worked great, but I can’t remember what it was. Any ideas?”

Over 80 people flooeded the comments to offer their suggestions, and whilst there was a range of products suggested, one stood out as the clear favourite.

Annika Karrison said: “Viakal is the best. Forget everything else. I squirt a line across the top of my shower door and a line across the centre.

“Wearing gloves and using a damp cloth, I wipe the Viakal over the entire door. I then do the same to the side panels. I then rinse it off, starting with the first panel, and that’s it. Very satisfying to see the difference. I do this in my client homes, and it always looks great.”

Sami Hill wrote: “I use Viakal with a dry cloth, it’s amazing.”

Julie Raine and Ruth Hudson both suggested Viakal, declaring it’s the ultimate solution for limescale. Gwyneth Calderbank said that she applies Viakal before stepping into the shower and then rinses it off while bathing, achieving “perfect results”.

Viakal, which can be found in most supermarkets for approximately £1.50, is a limescale remover and anti-watermark spray perfect for bathrooms.

It’s also suitable for surfaces such as chrome, stainless steel, ceramic, tiles and plastic, but should be used with care.

While some suggested white vinegar, Lisa said she wasn’t a fan of its smell, preferring to stick with commercial products instead.

However, be careful when using Viakal, as it’s not recommended to leave it on any surface for too long.

Brits are also advised to ensure proper ventilation when using cleaning products due to their strong nature, and to keep pets and children at a safe distance.
