The Clean Of Queen Lynsey Crombie shared her top tips on how to run your dishwasher more efficiently – and it turns out we’ve all been doing it wrong
Many will nod in agreement that washing up is one of those pesky household tasks ranking high on the list of least favourites.
Post-mealtime, wrestling with stubborn food remnants at your kitchen sink is hardly anyone’s idea of winding down. For those who have a dishwasher, it’s a welcome shortcut to evade this arduous chore and let technology take over the scrubbing duties.
However, cleaning whizz Lynsey Crombie, hailed as the Queen of Clean, has divulged that many of us are not utilising our dishwashers accurately, inadvertently cranking up our energy costs in doing so. During an enlightening segment on This Morning, Lynsey Crombie unveiled invaluable advice on how we can operate our dishwashers with greater efficiency.
Her clever hacks are not just practical but also promise to rein in spiralling utility bills. Her initial nugget of wisdom? Skip the pre-wash ritual for dishes destined for the dishwasher. Instead of rinsing plates and utensils, Lynsey recommends a simpler approach: “scrape off what you can” and bid farewell to the pre-rinse cycle.
She explained: “Most dishwashers today are powerful enough to get all the gunk off, so a lot of pre-rinsing by hand is often just a waste of water and time.” She also suggested a cost-effective alternative to rinse aid, saying: “Ditch the rinse aid and instead use white vinegar. It is a lot cheaper and does the same job.”
Next, Lynsey advises people to always “stick to good quality tablets” as they are much more effective and will save you from having to do any additional washing of dishes. “Another tip to keep costs down is to run it when it is full and use an eco-cycle if you have one.”
Every modern dishwasher has a special energy-efficiency setting that uses less power to heat the water by heating the water more slowly over a longer cycle,” Lynsey explained.
Finally, instead of doing a drying cycle, the expert shared her simple hack instead. She revealed: “Lastly, instead of doing a drying cycle, the expert shared her simple hack.
She revealed: “To avoid doing the full drying cycle, simply grab a tea towel and at the end of the cleaning cycle, place the towel within the door of the dishwasher and close it. All you have to do is wait five minutes, and the dishes will be dry and ready to be put away.”
