Cleaning influencer Chantel Mila Ibbotson, who is known as Mama Mila, has shared a three-ingredient hack that will make your white clothes look good as new – and it’s super easy to follow
White laundry seems to be a magnet for all kinds of stains, from the usual suspects like sweat and dirt to accidental food and drink spills.
And let’s not forget how white and coloured fabrics can turn a dreary yellow or grey over time, often without any clear cause. Even with the best laundering techniques to prevent colour bleed from darker clothes, some discolouration appears almost inevitable.
But before you reach for the bleach or optical brighteners, consider a gentler approach. Chantel Mila Ibbotson, known as @mama_mila_au on Instagram, has shared her three-ingredient miracle mix that promises to make your whites “brighter” than ever.
In her video caption, she declares: “How to make your white clothes look new again. Say goodbye to dingy white clothes.” She continues: “This simple method keeps your whites looking whiter and brighter. It’s perfect for socks, t-shirts and linens.”
Demonstrating with a stained white T-shirt, Chantel submerges it in warm water in a bowl, then adds one-quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide for its brightening and disinfecting properties, one cup of baking soda to tackle odours and enhance brightness, and a teaspoon of dish soap.
She confidently states: “This powerful mix lifts stains and makes your whites look brighter.” The use of dish soap in stain removal depends on the type of blemish you’re battling – it’s terrific for oil-based marks, reports the Express.
A savvy cleaning guru walked her fans through the process of pre-treating stained garments by soaking them before spinning through a normal wash. On her Instagram, the influencer’s cleanup trick was met with accolades, although questions arose about how long the clothes ought to sit in the soaking solution.
A curious @blasian86 took to the comments to ask: “How long to soak for?” In reply, Chantel Mila dished the dirt: “Usually an hour or two.”
