Carpet stains can be a real pain, but there’s a way to get rid of them in just minutes using a natural cleaning hack – and it’s super easy too
The winter months are the ideal time for entertaining – but with more dinner parties and guests in your home, you might notice an increase in carpet stains, too. Whether they’re from oily spills, red wine or just mucky shoes, carpet stains can be disheartening.
But they don’t have to be permanent. There’s a quick and simple way to banish carpet stains that doesn’t require any harsh chemicals, and won’t eat into your day either.
According to Southern Living, all you need is bicarbonate of soda and water – and perhaps a splash of vinegar for those particularly stubborn stains.
If the stain is a light one, whip up a paste using bicarbonate of soda and water and then apply it to the carpet and let it dry.
Once it’s completely dry, use your vacuum to suck it up and it should have vanished, reports the Express.
This tip will also work for stains on upholstery but always make sure you do a patch test first, as certain fabrics may stain.
If the stain is more stubborn, larger or has been there for longer then you may need to bring out the big guns.
And in this case, the big gun is vinegar.
For a tougher stain, sprinkle it with the bicarbonate of soda and then use a spray bottle with equal parts vinegar and water and spritz the stain.
It will fizz and bubble, so let it do its thing then blot the stain with a clean cloth. Once it’s fully dried, vacuum the area.
Again, always make sure to spot test this method somewhere less noticeable to ensure it won’t exacerbate the stain.
