Campmate Coleen Rooney opened up about parenthood in a conversation on I’m A Celebrity this week, including her discussing having experienced two miscarriages.
Coleen, 38, has spoken about her family whilst in the camp in Australia on the ITV show lately. She’s married to retired footballer Wayne Rooney, 39, and the couple’s family includes their sons Kai, 15, Klay, 11, Kit, eight, and Cass, six.
Friday night’s episode of I’m A Celebrity saw Coleen discuss the origins of her kids’ names with campmates Oti Mabuse, 34, and GK Barry, 25. Explaining why her youngest’s name doesn’t begin with the letter K, she told them: “I looked up the meaning of the name Cassius and with a K it meant blackbird, and with a C it meant clever.”
It was further revealed that she chose Mac for his middle name in reference to her maiden name McLoughlin, which pals used to shorten to ‘Mac’. Coleen shared that her middle name is Mary, so Cass has the same initials, CMR.
Speaking about having four sons, Coleen told her co-stars: “I would’ve liked a girl for Wayne. I wasn’t desperate. He would’ve liked a girl. I wasn’t bothered either way.” She went on to explain whilst in the camp: “I’ve had two miscarriages and I don’t know whether that has been girls, you know sometimes they say you can’t carry a certain sex.”
Coleen told Oti and GK that the first miscarriage was prior to her pregnancy with eldest son Kai. She shared in the recent conversation that the second experience came before she had her youngest two kids Kit and Cass. She commented about the experiences: “When I had the first one I was really scared [of not being able to have kids] but then once I had a child, it took that away. I went on to have another one. It’s not a nice feeling for anyone, it’s horrible, but knowing that I could conceive and have the child, then that made me feel better.”
And speaking of her husband Wayne, she said: “I feel for the men in this situation […] Wayne really felt it the first time round and it wasn’t until later on that I thought ‘do you know what, everyone’s fussing around me, but not him and he had to just get up and go to work as normal, but it’s quite hard.”
As shared by ITV, Oti – who welcomed a daughter with her husband Marius Iepure last year – commented: “It’s such a precious time but a scary time as well.” Just days ago, the professional dancer spoke about her daughter being born prematurely.
