Friends of Andrew Wade, 65, who was last seen on August 15 in Marbella, said they were extremely worried that something bad had happened to him

Police searching for a British man who went missing on the Costa del Sol last month have found a body believed to be his.

Andrew Wade, 65, was last seen on August 15 with friends saying after he left his home near Marbella they were extremely worried something bad had happened to him.

Today National Police officers who had been participating in a search for him said they had found a body thought to be his in area called Paraiso near Estepona.

A spokesman for the force said: “This morning, the National Police, members of Civil Protection and the Estepona Fire Brigade have set up an extensive search operation to locate a British citizen who disappeared on August 15 in the area.

“Throughout this time, an exhaustive investigation has been carried out, studying the steps that this person, a 65-year-old man, might have taken until the day of his disappearance.

“The information gathered revealed that he was preparing to move back to his country of origin.

“Finally, once his last movements had been narrowed down, investigators from the National Police, assisted by other local agencies, carried out an extensive search of the area.

“Officers had already worked in the area, analysing the terrain with drones, but as it is a wooded area with dense undergrowth and the results were not positive.

Today, investigators finally located a body in the area known as Paraiso. Confirmation of the identity and cause of death is pending”

Well-placed sources said it was being assumed it was Mr Wade’s body.

Reports at the time Andrew went missing, quoting friends, said he had left behind his two cats which was “very unlike him.” One acquaintance described him as “lovely.”

Spanish charity SOS Desaparecidos urged anyone with information to come forward.
At the time he went missing, he was said to have been possibly driving a black Volkswagen Golf.
