A couple who ventured on back-to-back extreme day trips, checked out the priciest and cheapest pint destinations and found one clear winner.

Jade and Ryan, from Manchester, travelled to three countries across two continents in three days, saving over £300 by skipping hotels for a late-night flight home. Over the three days the couple ventured from Iceland to Benidorm, before spending their third and final day in Morocco. Heading between the destinations, the couple found the best pint.

“We began in Iceland, where we visited the number one tourist attraction, the Blue Lagoon, to see if it’s worth it. It didn’t all go to plan, though. We accidentally spent £20 each on a bowl of soup but rectified this by finding the cheapest pint in Reykjavik at £6.85,” the couple shared.

Despite being the cheapest pint in Reykjavik, it is pricey compared to their home turf in the UK. “The pint was from Drunk Rabbit, an Irish Bar (they have a happy hour every day 12-7pm) and in Iceland that is needed! It was busy there,” they added. In Iceland, a small beer (0.33 L) costs around 1,200 ISK (£7) and a large beer costs around 1,600 ISK (£9). However, prices can vary depending on the type of beer and where you buy it.

On their second day, the couple headed off to Benidorm. “We hiked up to the viewpoint, had paella on the beach, watched the Bay City Rollers Tribute Act, and again, found the cheapest pint in Benidorm, which was considerably cheaper than Iceland at €1.50 (£1.24).”

The pint was from Uncle Peds, and due to its price, the couple shared: “There can only be one winner…”

For their final destination, the duo headed to a completely new continent — Africa. Heading to Morocco, the couple felt that the biggest risk would be the airport queues, as there are many layers of security upon landing. “However, we were out within 20 minutes of the plane touching down and headed straight to the desert, where we rode a camel, plunged into an ice pool, and enjoyed a three-course traditional meal before heading back to the airport,” the couple added.

To Jade and Ryan, their three-day whirlwind trip saved lots of money, and they didn’t require a hotel. But it did have its low points. “The hardest part was getting up in the morning as our alarms were set for 4am. To get the most time on an Extreme Day Trip you need to be on the earliest flight possible. But once we got going the adrenaline kicked in,” the couple shared.

Together they were at the Blue Lagoon by 10.30am, and on the third day, they were riding a camel by lunchtime. “It’s addictive,” they continued. “Once we got back we were already thinking about where the next one might be. Is New York too extreme? We’re used to travelling together on a budget so there was no irritation but we always have snacks to stop one of us getting hangry.”

Out of the three destinations though, the couple found a soft spot for Iceland, as usually it is considered one of the most expensive holiday destinations. “You can also tick off bucket list activities like the Blue Lagoon and we even saw the Northern Lights on our flight back home which caused a lot of commotion,” the couple concluded.
