A simple salad dressing recipe has been shared online that requires just three ingredients and can be made in a matter of minutes – and it’s perfect for summer salads
Salad remains a healthy essential, with everyone having their own favourite way to enjoy it. Some prefer a simple garden salad alongside their main dish, whilst others turn it into a substantial meal by adding fats, proteins, and carbohydrates – consider chicken Caesar and salade Niçoise.
Most would concede that a drizzle of dressing enhances any salad, yet many store-bought options spoil quickly before you can finish the bottle. Fortunately, a simple mixture of just three kitchen essentials could provide the solution.
Highlighted by Simply Recipes, this creamy salad dressing requires only three components and can be whipped up from scratch in merely five minutes.
It’s versatile as well, pairing beautifully with various basic salads, particularly those containing chicken, and works wonderfully on cabbage for homemade coleslaw.
Rachel Knecht from Simply Recipes discloses she makes the sweetened dressing recipe “on repeat” to drizzle over her favourite salad combining grilled chicken, white rice, crisp iceberg lettuce, and shaved carrots, reports the Express.
The fundamental recipe is simple: just combine rice vinegar, sugar, and mayonnaise.
Rachel noted: “Sometimes you’ll find sesame oil or poppy seeds added. I add salt, but again, you could skip it if you want to.”
Regarding quantities, Rachel’s formula produces around half a cup of dressing, sufficient to dress one head of iceberg lettuce (roughly four servings).
How to make simple salad dressing
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- Two tablespoons sugar
- 1/4 cup full-fat mayonnaise
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (optional)
- One teaspoon sesame oil (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon poppy seeds (optional)
Method
This straightforward recipe allows for easy personalisation to match your preferences, explains Rachel.
She notes that her version is “more tangy than sweet”, but you can add sugar one teaspoon at a time to adjust the taste.
She recommends using full-fat mayonnaise for the dressing to avoid curdling when combined with the vinegar, keeping the mixture smooth and stable in the fridge for several days without separating or solidifying.
To prepare the dressing, begin by mixing rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small bowl or spouted jug and whisk well.
Continue whisking until the sugar and salt have completely dissolved.
Next, incorporate the mayonnaise until you create a smooth dressing.
For additional flavour, this is when you should add sesame oil and poppy seeds.
Season liberally with pepper according to taste.
Pour the dressing over your crisp salad leaves, mixing thoroughly to ensure every leaf is coated.
