A cruise fan has revealed the secret symbol that fellows passengers stick on their cabin doors to suggest they are a swinger and open to meeting new people whilst onboard
A cruise fan has shared a secret symbol used on cruise ships which reveals one major thing about fellow passengers.
In an Instagram video, a cruise fan has shared the secret symbol that sheds the light on which passengers on a cruise are swingers. On the Instagram account @allcruising, a man filmed himself walking the hallways of a cruise ship deck, past several cabins, looking for the secret symbol that suggests the occupants of a cabin are partial to dropping their house keys in the bowl.
“I am looking for pineapples on the doors because it means they are swingers”, the man shares. “[Often on cruises] people decorate their doors, and if you see a pineapple, that means they are advertising they’re swingers.”
After passing several cabin doors, the man eventually comes across a door with one sticker on it, of an upside down pineapple which says “will swing if pushed”. The man in the video jokes: “Because I’ve had a drink I am going to go in” — before knocking on the door and the video ends.
In a second video, the man is seen carrying a pineapple sticker as he plans to stick it on a random door. “There is a swingers community on every cruise,” he states. One follower commented: “So this is why you like cruises.” Another user added: “When we were on a cruise, we always turned the pineapples upside down because of this.”
An account by the same name on TikTok has garnered millions views, with one video viewed over nine million times. In November 2024, the world’s largest cruise line banned the secret symbol from its ships. Carnival Cruise Line’s Brand Ambassador, John Heald, took to Facebook to discuss matters concerning the cruise ship industry when he responded to one passenger complaining about the lack of events to help singles meet up while on board.
Heald asked his followers how they might have met a significant other while cruising, with one Facebook user replying that an “upside down pineapple will do the trick”, reports LadBible. Heald thanked them for posting about the topic, writing: “Thank you for mentioning that, those are definitely no longer allowed on the ships and they will be removed from any cabin door. Thank you for reminding me to mention that.”
Some users joked about using other symbols, suggesting that a ban on ‘pineapples’ would just cause another symbol to be used in its place. However, other users said it was welcome, citing times when the symbol had been stuck on their door by someone else.
There are some cruises that label themselves as ‘spicy’, such as the Temptation Caribbean Cruise which includes activities and attractions such as topless-optional areas, a clothing-optional hotspot, the couples-only Playroom, workshops, thematic pool parties, and theme nights.
