Liverpool have started their pre-season preparations after jetting into Hong Kong for their Asia tour and Cody Gakpo was interviewed discussing some of the team’s new signings during a chat with LFCTV
Liverpool star Curtis Jones hilariously gatecrashed team-mate Cody Gakpo’s interview as he disagreed with the Dutchman’s claim that new signing Jeremie Frimpong was the fastest player on the team.
Gakpo was speaking to LFCTV during the team’s pre-season tour in Asia, with the players landing in Hong Kong ahead of a game against AC Milan this weekend.
Liverpool have a host of fresh faces in the squad in addition to Frimpong, with record £116.5m signing Florian Wirtz joining the likes of Milos Kerkez in arriving at Anfield, while Hugo Ekitike is also about to sign for the Reds.
Netherlands star Gakpo was giving his verdict on national team-mate Frimpong, praising his attacking qualities after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen for £29.5m but also singling out his pace on the wings.
“[He will bring] a lot. I think he has a lot of quality,” Gakpo said of Frimpong. “But I think one of his biggest qualities is he is maybe already the fastest player on the team.

“He is very fast, he has a good cross, he can defend, he can attack,” he added. “I think he can help us a lot.”
At this point, midfielder Jones butted into the conversation as he heaped praise on his team-mate – insisting he was the fastest player on the team, not Frimpong.
“He’s an incredible player,” Jones said as he stepped into the picture. “Probably the fastest in the team, one of the strongest, got the best technique, yeah, yeah, yeah, Cody Gakpo.”
Gakpo couldn’t help but laugh after Jones interrupted him and simply replied: “Oh my god! Thanks Curt, thanks Curt!”
The 26-year-old joined Liverpool from PSV in 2023 and has made a real impact at Anfield. He has scored 41 times in 128 appearances and was a real weapon for the Reds as they won the Premier League title last season.
He scored 10 goals in the top flight and chipped in with 18 strikes across all competitions and appears to be a first choice option on the left wing for Arne Slot.
Jones, meanwhile, is an academy graduate at Liverpool who has made 179 appearances since making his breakthrough in the 2019-20 season. He made a total of 46 outings under Slot in all competitions last season.
It comes as Liverpool await official confirmation that Ekitike has become their latest signing. The Premier League champions have agreed to pay around £79m for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker, who Slot hopes will provide top level competition for the likes of Luis Diaz in attack.
