Kyran Durnin has not been seen since June 2022, and yesterday his dad arrived at a house in Drogheda where forensic teams are searching the home and garden for clues and was visibly upset
The dad of a little boy who is missing, presumed dead, shouted “murdering scum. He’s my son” as police continue to search a house and garden.
Kyran Durnin’s dad – who is not a suspect in the murder investigation – arrived at the home in Drogheda. He was visibly distressed, having paused outside the home with some friends. They reportedly waited several minutes before the dad become upset and was shouting: “Youse don’t understand”.
The six-year-old schoolboy has not been seen since June 2022. Two people – a man and a woman – were previously arrested on suspicion of the schoolboy’s murder, but both were released without charge.
Gardai are now searching the two storey semi-detached house, which belongs to woman known to the child, and its back garden. The search finished at 5pm yesterday, and has resumed for a third day today. This search is the fourth of such searches in the murder investigation of Kyran. Detectives are working on the assumption that he may have died up to two-and-a-half years ago.
Officers from the Technical Bureau are carrying out forensic and technical examinations. A digger was brought into the back garden on the first day of the search. Several brown evidence bags were removed from the scene yesterday. Locals gathered on the street to observe this latest search with one local telling the Irish Mirror: “Please God they find some evidence of the whereabouts of little Kyran and he can be given a proper burial. I am glad that they have started the search here.
“This case has been going on since last August when the new broke Kyran was missing. And it’s nearly three years now since he was last seen. I just don’t understand why someone won’t say where Kyran is and let the poor child rest in peace.” Another added: “I was surprised to see garda cars and vans arrive in the estate as things seem to have gone quiet in the investigation. When I say surprised I mean in a good way as it means more progress is being made which is good to see. Am praying the gardai find something that helps with their investigation. Please God they do.”
In a statement issued on Wednesday gardai said: “Despite the public support and extensive and ongoing enquiries carried out by Gardaí to date, An Garda Síochána have been unable to locate Kyran. Kyran would now be 8 years old. An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to the public, notwithstanding all the information that is in the public domain, do not assume that the investigation team know the information that you may have. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence.”
