Danny Duran dead: Disney legend dies as tributes paid to ‘truly special’ star

By staff8 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A ‘powerhouse’ in the world of Disney has sadly died at the age of 58 following a cancer battle a statement has confirmed as tributes pour in

A Disney legend has died after an eight month battle with cancer. The death of respected entertainment publicist Danny Duran was confirmed in a touching social media post. He was 58 years old.

The statement shared on Facebook by City of Signal Hill council member Keir Jones read: “We lost a truly special soul last night—Danny Duran passed away in Los Angeles, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and brilliance that touched so many lives.

“Danny was not only a beloved husband and friend—he was a powerhouse in the world of publicity, the founder of ddPR, and a trusted voice behind major studios like Disney, Lionsgate, and Universal. His career spanned decades, including work on iconic films like The Lion King, Evita, The Rock, and Con Air, and representing clients with a quiet confidence and undeniable grace.”

The statement continued: “Danny’s passing is a profound loss to all who knew him, but the love he gave—to Blaine (his husband), to his friends, to his work—remains a lasting gift. Rest in peace, Danny. You were light in every room you entered, and your spirit will live on in all of us who had the privilege to know you.”

Actress Beth Grant was among those paying tribute to Danny. Beth, who starred on shows such as The Mindy Project and was one of Danny’s clients, wrote: “Danny was a lovely, special friend for over 20 years.

“He helped me navigate the public relations in Hollywood in the most wonderfully kind and understated ways. I’ll always remember the sparkle in his eyes and his sweet smile.

“I’m so saddened by this loss, not just for me, but for our community. My husband. Michael Chieffo, joins me in gratitude for the happy memories we shared with Danny. We shall love him always.”

Executive VP of Content Strategy and Integration Marketing, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Amelia McPartlon Rogers also said: “Danny was a tireless champion — for his clients, the causes he believed in, and the friends, family and colleagues fortunate enough to be in his orbit. His belief in me early in my career helped lay the foundation for my future, and I will be forever grateful for his encouragement and loving friendship.”

After starting his career in Hollywood with Walt Disney Studio, Danny went on to join Sandra Bullock’s production company, Fortis Film There, he handled the actress’ publicity.

He also looked after the likes of Eric Roberts, Bill Pullman, Chris McDonald, and Ron Livingston.

Other film and talent clients he worked with throughout his career included Roadside Attractions, Savannah Entertainment, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Lionsgate.

He also founded boutique agency ddPR in 2000. There, he took on Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment as a client and helped the division to transition from VHS to DVD, before later moving to Blu-ray. Among the titles were The Lion King, Snow White and The Little Mermaid.

Danny is survived by his husband, Blain, his sister, brother-in-law, two nieces and parents.
