David Beckham has remained in pristine condition since retiring from football in 2013 and the Manchester United icon has shared the fitness routine that’s kept him in top shape
David Beckham has revealed his post-retirement fitness regime – which includes three padel sessions a week. The Manchester United legend, who turned 50 on Friday, might be clocking in at half a century old, but he’s far from slowing down physically.
Throughout his 21-year football career, Beckham was the epitome of athletic discipline. And it seems that dedication hasn’t waned since he hung up his boots in 2013.
Post-career, while some athletes might take the chance to kick back, the Inter Miami co-owner has switched gears, embracing new hobbies previously off-limits due to insurance restrictions during his playing days.
Now, as he told Men’s Health, snowboarding and surfing are on the agenda, but it’s padel that’s become a staple in his life, especially stateside. “I play padel three times a week and work out every day – especially when I’m in Miami,” Beckham disclosed, reports Surrey Live.
The sport, which began in Mexico and is gaining traction globally, is akin to tennis but with its own distinct set of rules and playing style. This high-intensity sport not only involves constant running and agile movements in various directions, but also enhances endurance and cardiovascular health.
According to the LTA, a single game of padel can burn over 400 calories per individual. Since hanging up his boots, Beckham and his sons have developed a passion for skiing and snowboarding.
However, he confesses that as he’s grown older, he’s noticed his children’s quicker speed and agility on the slopes. “Not being able to be on a snowboard for my whole career, and then going on it when I retired – it’s my favourite holiday of all time,” he revealed.
“I can have a bit of anonymity and there’s fresh air. Me and my boys, we’re the first up and the last off the slope. It’s the best part, having those chats on the lifts.
“You get into them. The kids can’t go on their phones. They’re just sat there and we’re all chatting – it’s amazing. I try to get competitive with the boys, but when you start getting older you notice they’re getting quicker and more agile.
“When they got to 18 years old, I really noticed they were flying down the mountain. I tried to keep up with them, but they’re quite good with letting me keep up.”
Becks fits his workout routines in around his busy schedule as Inter Miami president. The MLS club have made a solid start to the 2025 season, sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference with five wins, three draws and just one defeat.
