Dele Alli has been hit by another injury setback with the midfielder being struck by a hamstring problem, which will hamper his hopes of landing a contract with Everton
Dele Alli’s hopes of landing an Everton contract have been hampered by a hamstring injury.
Dele hasn’t played competitively since February 2023 when he was on loan at Turkish side Besiktas and he’s been looking to get himself primed physically. However, whilst training with the Toffees, the former Tottenham man has been dealt another setback.
Dele’s contract at Everton expired in the summer but he had been hoping to earn a new deal with the Toffees and they’ve allowed him to continue training with the group. The 28-year-old is now set for a period on the sidelines, reports Everton insider El Bobble.
Whilst the Merseysider outfit have allowed the former Tottenham star to train with them former club scout Bryan King has warned Sean Dyche’s side may run out of patience by the end of the year if there is no end in sight to Dele’s continued injury woes.
His constant setbacks have prevented him from playing for more than 12 months, but interest remains in the player, who was once tipped for huge things. Italian side Genoa and Ligue 1 club Lille have both been linked with trying to bring in the former Tottenham man on a free transfer.
Dele had enjoyed next to no luck in recent years as he drives desperately to revive his career. Tottenham eventually ran out of patience and allowed the midfielder, who would once commanded a fee of around £80million, to leave for Goodison Park.
It was during Frank Lampard’s tenure that Everton bought Dele to the club but he’s largely underwhelmed during that time. They sent him out on loan hoping that he would rediscover his best form, but the move failed to work out for either party.
Dyche said earlier this year: “Dele’s focus is just getting fit, nothing other than that. Obviously he’s got a period yet, he’s just focusing on that. Somebody asked me recently and I said we’re trying to just let him get fit. We’re not worried about when he’s available, we’re saying ‘first things first – get fit’ so that’s all we’re looking for him to do and all he’s looking to do.”
Dele twice claimed the PFA Young Player of the Year award at Tottenham and Sir Alex Ferguson previously tipped him to reach the very top, even advising Jose Mourinho to go after the player when he was appointed as Manchester United boss.
