Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell shared her disappointment after being forced to miss a huge family milestone as she focuses on the BBC dance competiton
Dianne Buswell may be on cloud nine after sharing her pregnancy and returning to the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor, yet living thousands of miles from her family can take its toll. The Aussie professional dancer is in the midst of rehearsals for the hit BBC dance competition, which kicked off last night.
She is expecting her first child with YouTuber Joe Suggs, having met on the show. Dianne is making history as the first Strictly star to compete while pregnant, and has been given a nod to her Australian roots thanks to her celebrity dance partner.
The 36-year-old has been partnered with Neighbours star Stefan Dennis and they will make their dancefloor debut on Saturday night for the first live show of the series. However, being halfway across the world for work means Dianne has been forced to miss out on huge events.

As Strictly kicked off last night, her beloved family were Down Under celebrating Dianne’s brother as he turned 40. She shared photos of her parents dressed up for the milestone celebration, followed by a snap of the birthday boy.
Dianne emotionally shared: “Stop look at my beautiful parents off to my brothers 40th party. Gosh I hate missing out on these things.” In one photo, Dianne’s dad could be seen holding a microphone as he stood next to her brother.
She added: “Ohhhh I can’t wait to see the video of this speech.” Dianne reunited with her 2024 celebrity partner Chris McCausland on screens this weekend as they performed ‘one last dance’.
They re-created their winning routine to You Never Walk Alone and received another standing ovation with many brought to tears by the routine.
“It has been lovely to be back,” Chris said. Dianne added: “I don’t like to be soppy but Chris is the best friend I never knew I needed in my life.” She branded him a “friend for life,” in a touching moment.
Not only did he have to give back the Glitterball Trophy, he also had to step back and let Dianne take on a new celebrity. Dianne and Stefan aim to replicate the success of last year.
In a sweet backstage moment, Dianne introduced her past and present celebrity partner to each other. The dancer shared a touching photo of the moment as she said: “Stefan meet Chris,” alongside a red love heart emoji.
Dianne met her partner Joe in 2018 while he was competing on the BBC show. Earlier this month, they took to Instagram to share their happy news with an adorable stick-figure illustration depicting them with a little one.
Alongside the adorable post, Dianne and Joe revealed their baby’s gender as they gushed: “Our little baby boy. We cannot wait to meet you.”
In a discussion with Chris about how being pregnant influences her dancing, she shared: “I’m still doing everything that I did before. Obviously with lifts there’s just going to be a bit more caution, but my doctor has said that everything is normal.
“He said, ‘Basically if you’ve done it before…then crack on and keep doing what you were doing…you shouldn’t stop what you do’.”
