Families are elated as work is set to get underway for the newest development at Disney World in Florida. It will be Disney’s first ever suspended coaster
If there’s one thing that Disney fans love best it’s updates, new rides and a large sprinkling of ‘imagineering’ – and that’s exactly what’s happening over at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. Work is set to get underway for the newest exciting development, with families ready to tackle a brand new land.
Monstropolis from the hit Disney Pixar movie franchise Monsters Inc., is set to takeover the current Muppets courtyard area of the Florida theme park. The new plans will remove the iconic Muppet Vision 3D interactive show that has been in the park since May 16, 1991 and the stunning Muppets fountain, by June 7, 2025, and replace it with a brand new immersive land filled with merch, food, drinks and characters. But the most exciting addition to the area is undoubtedly the new rollercoaster.
It will be Disney’s first ever suspended coaster with a vertical life that will take you into the heart of the action via a door vault scene just like in the film, and will come complete with a special loading zone and ride tech unlike any other.
Fans, families and little ones will remember the chaotic ‘scare floor’ where the doors of childrens’ bedrooms are lined up for monsters to enter in order to collect their screams, which will power the make-believe Monstropolis. Of course, in true James P. Sullivan and Mike Wazowski fashion, this doesn’t often go to plan with the monsters now after laughs instead of screams – leaving fans expecting surprises and giggles around every twist and turn of the coaster.
Meanwhile, fans of the Muppets shouldn’t worry – they’re not being shunned from the park entirely. In fact, they’re simply moving home over to Sunset Boulevard, by the Hollywood Tower of Terror, to take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, famously fronted by rock band Aerosmith at the moment.
The Graves family from Dundee added that the new area will be a welcomed addition to the already ‘incredible park.’ The family’s 17 year old, Calvin, said: “I’m always out here with my family and this is by far our favourite Disney park. To hear that Disney is making more of Monsters Inc. is amazing, and the new rollercoaster theming reminds me so much of my childhood. I get to step into the actual movie!”
With plans on when the new land and ride will open still very much hidden inside the laugh canisters for now, families can relax in the knowledge they likely have plenty of time to save up those vital pennies.
Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event Presented by Visa unveiled an unprecedented slate of projects including new attractions and lands including villains, Cars and the biggest expansion to the Magic Kingdom ever.
It’s not the only Orlando theme park to expand with this year marking a momentous moment for Universal Orlando Resort who will open the gates to their brand new Epic Universe park on May 22. With five new highly-immersive lands including more Harry Potter and a scary Dark Universe, theme park adventures holiday bookings for families has never been in more demand.
