A doctor took to TikTok to explain how the consistency and colour of your poo can give a good indication of your health – and there is a certain type that could mean you’re extremely healthy
Most people go for a number two anything from three times daily to three times weekly.
It’s our body’s way of binning undigested food waste. Despite the routine nature of it, not all poos look the same, varying in hue and texture for myriad reasons.
For this, experts suggest taking a look at your stool before it is flushed – certain changes could flag up something iffy. But there’s one stool type that might just mean you’re in tip-top shape.
On TikTok, naturopathic doctor Dr Janine Bowring schooled her 900k-plus fans on what’s dubbed “ghost poops”. She said: “If you have this type of poop, you may just be the healthiest person on the planet and it is the ghost poop,” further sparking intrigue as she described it: “The poop that you look in the toilet and you’re like, ‘I’m sure I pooped’ but it’s gone.”
What is a ghost poop, you ask? It’s the stealthy kind that makes a break for it down the loo, leaving nary a trace when you swipe with loo roll, reports the Express. A curious follower quizzed Dr Bowring, who said: “It takes itself down the pipe”.
Dr Bowring links the vanishing act to one’s scoff, saying grub loaded with fibre and fatty acids, such as omega-3s, are usually behind it. Elaborating, she added, “Because you probably have enough fibre. You even wipe and you’re like, ‘I thought I pooped, I don’t see anything’.”
The magic behind it? Ample fibre and those crucial fatty acids, she reveals. She explained: “Your circadian rhythms are in tune with nature, with a light and dark cycle of the day.”
The appearance and consistency of your poo can change based on what you eat, how much you drink, and your overall health. If it’s particularly hard or loose, it might be time to adjust your diet or consider that there could be a deeper problem.
Poo is supposed to be medium to dark brown. Seeing red or black in your stools could indicate blood, which means you should get to a doctor pronto.
