Donald Trump considers P Diddy pardon as White House issue statement

P Diddy is rumoured to be considered for a Presidential pardon in the coming days, but a spokesperson for Donald Trump has now spoken out on the speculation

Donald Trump has reportedly been considering giving a Presidential pardon to P Diddy. The disgraced rapper and music mogul was sentenced to four years and two months in prison after being found guilty on two counts of transportation for prostitution.

Diddy, 55, has been locked up at the infamous Metropolitan Detention Centre (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York City, where he has been held in the Special Housing Unit, since September last year. However, he is said to have requested to serve the remainder of his sentence in another prison.

But this week, reports emerged suggesting that President Donald Trump has been considering issuing the disgraced musician a pardon. This gives legal forgiveness for a federal crime, ending the punishment and restoring rights, including the ability to vote.

A source had claimed that Trump had been “vacillating” in communication with staff at the White House, apparently urging Trump not to commute the sentence. However, a source said Trump “will do what he wants,” with American outlet TMZ reporting that Diddy could have been released this week.

Now, a spokesperson for President Trump at the White House has furiously shut the speculation down. “There is zero truth to the TMZ report,” they told the Mirror. They went on to add: “Which we would’ve gladly explained had they reached out before running their fake news.

“The president, not anonymous sources, is the final decider on pardons and commutations.” However, earlier this month, Trump told reporters that Combs had asked him for a pardon. Trump, referring to Combs by the nickname ‘Puff Daddy,’ did not say if he would grant the request.

Messages seeking comment on Trump’s remarks were left for Combs’ lawyers and his publicity team. Diddy’s lawyers hope that a move to a lower-security prison in New Jersey to serve his sentence will help him stay clean. In a letter, his lawyer urged Judge Arun Subramanian to “strongly recommend” that the federal Bureau of Prisons transfer Diddy to FCI Fort Dix, a prison located on the grounds of military base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. Subramanian has not yet acted on the request to recommend placement at FCI Fort Dix.

This prison is one of several with a residential drug treatment programme, which in turn would allow Diddy to “address drug abuse issues and to maximise family visitation and rehabilitative efforts,” his lawyer Teny Geragos wrote. He was jailed in July under the federal Mann Act, which prohibits transporting people across state lines for any sexual crimes. After the trial, Diddy was acquitted on sex trafficking and racketeering charges, which would have seen him handed a life sentence.

But having already been jailed since last year, this will be taken off of his sentence, meaning he could be released in around three years. In a letter on sent to the judge the night before his sentencing, Diddy said he had gone through “spiritual reset” and was “committed to the journey of remaining a drug-free, non-violent and peaceful person.” He added: “I thank God that I’m stronger, wiser, clean, clear and sober.”

Combs has been locked up at a federal jail in Brooklyn, the Metropolitan Detention Centre, since his September 2024 arrest. His time there will be subtracted from his sentence, meaning he could get out in about three years.

The Mirror has approached Diddy’s spokesperson and the White House for comment.
