Dramatic moment Russian fighter jet intercepts US plane flying over Black Sea

By staff28 August 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

The US Navy P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine aircraft was intercepted over the Black Sea by a Russian Su-35S multirole fighter as Vladimir Putin’s bombs rain down on Ukraine

A Russian fighter captured the moment it intercepted a US Navy anti-submarine aircraft as it flew over the Black Sea as Donald Trump continues to press Vladimir Putin over Ukraine peace negotiations.

Russian sources say the flight by the long-range maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare (ASW), which was captured by a Russian Su-35S multirole fighter, shows the US remains active in intelligence gathering to support Ukraine’s war effort off the coast of occupied Crimea. “The captured payload – traced for the first time – on the American submarine-hunter is of particular interest,” reported Voyenny Osvedomitel military Telegram channel.

“The footage shows, beneath the Poseidon’s fuselage, a newly-fitted AN/APS-154 Advanced Airborne Sensor radar.”

“There is not much publicly available information about it, but it is known to be a versatile system designed for detecting submarines, surface vessels, and for coastal reconnaissance.

“The war in Ukraine has become an excellent testing ground—both for us and for our ‘respected partners’—to trial the latest types of weaponry under real combat conditions.” The Black Sea has become known as a “Battle Lab” among analysts, with participants in the conflict using the conditions to experiment with military technology.

Russia’s escorting £60 million Su-35S – the Kremlin’s most advanced 4.5-generation multirole fighter jet, with a NATO reporting name of Flanker-E – evidently did not seek to interfere with the £208 million US plane’s flight over international waters in the Black Sea.

The incident comes as Donald Trump is seeking to persuade Vladimir Putin to engage with peace talks over the three-and-a-half year war in Ukraine.

Overnight, the Ukraine capital suffered nine hours and nine minutes of hell from Putin, leaving 10 dead and 48 injured, with dozens hospitalised. The intense strikes forced NATO to scramble warplanes amid fears of a threat to neighbouring allied state Poland.

Putin’s horrific bombardment of the Ukraine capital is the strongest evidence so far that he has no intention of engaging with Donald Trump’s peace moves, as he also shies away from a face-to-face meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky.

Russia hit Kyiv with cruise missiles, and hypersonic Kinzhal – or Dagger – ballistic missiles as well as deadly Shahed drones – shrouding the city in smoke in one of the harshest strikes of the entire three-and-a-half year war. It’s believed a total of 600 drones and 31 missiles were unleashed on the capital, leaving the dawn sun barely visible due to the smog from strikes polluting the sky.

Ukraine claims to have downed 563 drones and 26 missiles to defend the city. Russian source War Gonzo in a sickening boast claimed Kyiv was hit overnight “with a record number of ballistic missiles”.

Rescuers were today searching under the rubble for civilians targeted by Putin’s war machine, as firefighting helicopters were called in to douse fires from the carnage. It’s undertstood that the EU mission to Ukraine was also damaged in the Russian strikes, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
