Drivers are only just spotting black button in cars – it makes huge difference

Annoyed motorists have been left wondering why they’ve wasted money on wiper blades when they could have just done it themselves

Car owners know the frustration all too well — a seemingly simple malfunction can suddenly make your wheels feel like they’re falling apart.

Scratched windscreens are an absolute nightmare, brought on by defective wiper blades that smudge rather than swipe. The usual solution is to grudgingly cough up for brand-new blades and a costly service.

But car maintenance need not break the bank. At least, that’s according to one TikTok whiz. This user suggests a nifty button on your wiper blade could save your wallet from getting wiped out. The savvy @master_driver666, who previously shared hacks for fixing mirror windows and banishing air-con odours, posted a clip detailing a DIY blade replacement trick.

Simple button hack

As she demonstrated beside her motor, about a minute into the video, she advises: “The wiper blade cannot clean the glass, come and see, there’s a black button here.

“Let’s hold it down with our hands, then gently pull it up, the wiper blade has been removed. Next aim your new wiper blade here, insert it from top to bottom, the wiper blades have been replaced.”

The ease of the home fix-up is sheer motoring magic. Garages often stick you with a hefty tag for parts and labour, potentially spiralling to £50 a go. Some places won’t even touch your vehicle without asking for at least £8 for the fit-up.

But now, with your newfound knowledge, you can easily save some money along the way. Since being posted, the video has raked in over 14,200 shares and 60,000 likes.

While many have praised the woman’s extensive video, some viewers have offered their own suggestions for window repair and switches, with one enquiring: “How do you fix a window?” and another chiming in: “Still waiting for window repair.”

In a separate piece of ingenuity, a driver recently shared their ‘holy’ sunroof hack, an inventive trick that other drivers are itching to emulate. A post in the DIWHY subreddit showcased images of a cleverly modified sunroof featuring a stained glass window design.
