‘Drunk’ Brit woman forces Jet2 flight to Cyprus to land early after ‘attacking crew’

A “drunk” British woman was arrested after a Jet2 flight was forced to land early when she allegedly started attacking crew members and passengers on board.

The flight turned into a nightmare when the plane – that was due to fly from Manchester to Larnaca, Cyprus – landed in Germany after a passenger turned violent on Thursday night. Officers at Cologne Bonn Airport described the 41-year-old as being “heavily intoxicated” and arrested her after the plane landed at 7.20pm.

The unruly flyer is accused of kicking, punching, insulting and hurling threats at other people travelling on the Jet2 flight.

Mathias Kämpfer, a spokesperson, said: “In consultation with Cologne police, she was taken to the station for further processing and placed in police custody to sober up.”

The 41-year-old now faces deportation following the flight mayhem. The plane was subsequently unable to depart from Germany due to a technical fault, leaving passengers stranded until a replacement service could be arranged.

German police later released a statement, warning people against flying after drinking excessive amounts of alcohol or drinking while airborne.

The statement read: “Even small amounts (of alcohol) can have a significantly stronger effect than on the ground due to the unique stresses of flying – such as lower air pressure and altered oxygen concentrations.

“Aggressive behaviour not only endangers other passengers but can also severely impair the safety of a flight. The Federal Police therefore urges responsible consumption of alcohol in air travel.”

This comes after a shocking video showed the moment police dragged “uncontrollable” passengers off a Jet2 flight after it descended into chaos. The unrest happened onboard a flight from Leeds Bradford Airport to Chania International Airport in Greece on July 24.

After the flight was delayed, a passenger, named Ian, said two friends became unruly after they began drinking a duty-free bottle of vodka during the wait.

Ian said: “The airline staff were doing their best but the drunk guy just overwhelmed them. The police had to intervene because the man was so drunk he was uncontrollable.

“Apparently, the two friends brought a duty-free bottle of vodka on board and thought it was okay to drink it while we were delayed.” He added: “It was quite a serious altercation. There were kids on board who may never want to fly again.”

Jet2 hasn’t been the only airline to be impacted by chaotic passengers. A rowdy Brit stag do saw an easyJet plane diverted before police jumped onboard to escorted them off. The easyJet flight from London Gatwick to Marrakesh, Morocco, had to land in Faro, Portugal.

The diverted aircraft was greeted by eight Portuguese police officers who dealt with the group. Two men were led off whilst the other four stag do members made their way off the plane.
