The DVLA has revoked the driving licences of tens of thousands of motorists in the last year, with certain areas of the UK proving to be worse affected than others
A staggering 140,000 motorists have had their driving licences taken away by the DVLA.
After Dayinsure’s motoring experts crunched the numbers, they found a jaw-dropping 140,792 drivers have been banned from the road. The range of reasons for a ban signal serious breaches – rack up over 12 penalty points and you’re automatically looking at a ban, while some offences guarantee an instant licence loss.
How long you’re off the road? That’s up to the courts and how grave your offence looks in their eyes, with bans ranging from six months up to two years.
A repeat offender or someone quick to collect points, that’s going to weigh heavily in the court’s decision. Dayinsure’s own Nicholas Shaw issued a warning on driver safety, no matter where you’re behind the wheel. H said: “You sadly cannot just assume that others will drive as carefully as you would.”
Our final piece of advice would be to ensure that you are fully insured in case worse comes to worse and you are involved in an accident.”
In Bradford, the statistics are particularly stark – one in every 191 drivers there have suffered licence revocations, leaving Liverpool trailing in second place, reports Birmingham Live.
In Liverpool, one in every 204 drivers face a similar fate. Teesside rounds out the top three, with one in 231 motorists subject to a ban. While major cities like London, Birmingham, Cardiff, and Edinburgh managed to avoid the top five in terms of per-head stats, they still rank highly.
Capital city London saw a total of 7,995 drivers banned, while Birmingham had over 4,000 disqualified motorists. However, their large populations help balance out these figures in the overall rankings.
Blackburn, Leeds, Oldham, Sunderland and Halifax round off the top 10 areas on the list.
