GB News host Eamonn Holmes interacted with a fan about his New Year’s wishes after facing a work shakeup, health woes, and divorce in 2024
This Morning alum Eamonn Holmes, 65, shared his wishes for a “kinder” 2025.
Eamonn shared a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on December 29, sharing a Christmas recommendation with his fans. “Now here’s a really good one. Just finished watching Danny DeVito & Matthew Broderick in Deck The Halls on @ITVX. I’m at last full of Christmas Cheer!!! A new favourite for my list,” the GB News host wrote.
In response, a fan shared: “Great film. Hope 2025 will be kind to you!” Eamonn replied to the comment to show that he agreed with the wish for next year, posting three praying hands emojis.
“Glad to see you are perking up. Concerned for you. Best for New Year,” another fan commented on the post, while Eamonn also replied to another to confirm that he’d be back on GB News on Monday, January 6.
GB News’ plans for the new year were unveiled earlier this month, and include Eamonn no longer presenting its breakfast show with Isabel Webster, 42 – who was known as his “work wife” thanks to their closeness. She will be replaced by Ellie Costello, 31, as part of the new schedule from January.
Alongside his GB News shakeup, Eamonn is still dealing with severe mobility problems following back surgery and now uses a wheelchair primarily, although he can use a walker over short spans, according to the Express. Back in January, Eamonn opened up about living with an “epidemic of pain,” and revealed the possibility that he may never walk unassisted again.
His mobility issues regretfully resulted in missing the funeral of his dear mother, Josie, in November 2023. At the time, Eamonn shared: “It’s as if somebody up there is playing with my life.
“In the past year, I’ve had an operation on my back which went wrong and has confined me to a wheelchair. I’ve fallen and broken my shoulder. Honestly, you could not make it up.”
Eamonn and Ruth Langsford, 64, also announced their shock split in May, and Eamonn has quickly moved on with new girlfriend Katie Alexander, 42. While Ruth has kept fairly silent about the ins and outs of her split from Eamonn, reports on how Eamonn’s health woes impacted the couple’s relationship came flooding in after the split was announced.
Speaking about the star’s ill health at the time, a friend of the couple is said to have told MailOnline: “Ruth has become more his carer than a wife. Eamonn has been thoroughly miserable.”
They claimed Eamonn has become “more and more grumpy” and, in the end, it started to get Ruth “down more than she could accept”. The publication also alleged that Eamonn joked to friends about being ‘touched’ more by his physio than Ruth in recent years, with Ruth allegedly upset by the comment.
