EastEnders star, Kacey Ainsworth, who played Little Mo in the BBC soap from 2000 to 2006 is back on our screens in Grantchester and looks a world away from her days in Walford
BBC’s EastEnders favourite, Kacey Ainsworth, looks unrecognisable 25 years after she made her debut in Albert Square.
The actress, 55, who played the much-loved Little Mo Slater in the BBC soap, won several awards for her portrayal of the cleaner, who was abused by her husband, Trevor Morgan. After leaving EastEnders in 2006, Kacey has switched roles completely and is currently starring in the ninth series of ITV detective drama , Grantchester, – looking completely different!
EastEnders fans will remember Little Mo sporting long brown hair with a blunt fringe during her days in Walford. However, Kacey is now a red-head, rocking a much shorter cut with curls, which suits her character, Cathy Keating, in the 1950s drama perfectly.
Talking on the Lorraine Show about reprising her role in Grantchester, Kacey also revealed she helped to write Wednesday’s instalment of the show. Revealing how she became involved in script-writing, she said: “It’s something I always wanted to do, I started writing with [EastEnders star] Tracey Ann Oberman when we had babies together and we had successful time with it.
“But the trouble was is that I work as an actress and so does she, we’re always so busy. We can’t concentrate on these things, but it’s never too late. It’s never too late to do something like this.” She continued: “I’d been suggesting things for Kathy to do and for other characters and storylines for years, I just thought I had to take the bull by the horns. I wrote over the Christmas, three weeks off, I got up early before the kids, wrote an episode and went for it!”
Kacey’s alter-ego Little Mo was involved in a number of hard-hitting storylines, including her abusive relationship with husband Trevor. During her chat with Lorraine, the actress said she would be open to returning to EastEnders, despite the tough storylines.
Pointing out that Little Mo was still alive, she said: “She’s not dead.” Lorraine asked: “What is she doing?” Kacey joked: “Somebody asked me this yesterday, I think she left on the tube, she’s just going around the circle line..” Laughing, Lorraine said: “Never say never.”
In January 2000, Kacey was one of 30 actresses who auditioned for the role of Little Mo. The character was created as part of the Slater family, which introduced us to soap stars including, Kat, played by Jessie Wallace and Stacey, played by Lacey Turner. In 2004, Kacey took extended leave from EastEnders before announcing her decision to leave the soap in 2006 to pursue other projects, including Hotel Babylon and Moving On.
