Emily Atack finds the perfect new autumn blush shade in sensitive skin-friendly formula

Emily Atack’s ‘favourite’ blush for autumn is a lightweight, natural-looking one that has a sensitive skin-friendly formula and nails the ‘French girl aesthetic’

As the weather changes, it’s always a good idea to give your makeup bag a little update to make sure you’re using formulas and shades to suit the new season. For Emily Atack, that means swapping her lighter summer blusher shades for something a little darker and richer in the form of Merit’s Flush Balm Cream (£26).

Emily’s makeup artist Lydia Barnes recently shared that the Merit blusher is her current go-to for using on the Rivals star, saying: “This is our favourite blush now we’re into autumn. Perfect if you like the ‘French girl aesthetic’ bringing a fresh natural warmth to the skin.”

The Flush Balm Cream is perfect for creating a natural-looking flush on your cheeks, and has a lightweight buildable formula, so you can create the intensity that you want. Lydia used the shade Postmodern on Emily’s cheeks, which is a deep, berry-toned shade that’s perfect for autumn.

The Flush Balm Cream contains microfine pigment powders which add the colour but don’t cover up your skin’s natural texture for a truly natural look. It’s also been formulated with vitamin E to condition your skin, and without any acne-triggering ingredients which makes it great for sensitive skin.

If you’re hesitant about using blusher because of how quickly it can go wrong, then the Merit blush is the one for you. It’s almost impossible to mess up thanks to its design, which can be applied straight onto your skin or with a brush.

You don’t even need to worry too much about placement, as the Flush Balm Cream is incredibly easy to blend out, and has a sheer finish that sinks into your skin without making an instant impact. That means if you make a mistake it’s easy enough to cover up, and you can layer the product to create more intensity as you get more confident with it.

You can also snap up similar formulas like Jones Road’s Miracle Balm (£38), which acts as a blusher, bronzer, highlighter and more all in one. It’s a light-reflecting balm that you can use on your cheeks, lips, or as an all-over tint for a natural look, and be layered over foundation to warm things up or wear it on its own for a no-makeup glow.

Alternatively, The Beauty Crop’s Glow Milk Luminous Blush Powder is more affordable at £8 and has a silky powder formula that’s a little easier to manage if you’re not familiar with a cream or balm. The powder melts into a buttery cream that’s easy to blend, making it an easy one to use on the go.
