England fans make their point with Thomas Tuchel chants minutes into Latvia game

England manager Thomas Tuchel has received a response from Three Lions’ fans after criticising the support from home fans at Wembley against Wales last week.

England fans have offered a response to Thomas Tuchel after he criticised the atmosphere from home supporters at Wembley Stadium last week. The former Chelsea boss tore into ‘silent’ fans as the Three Lions eased past Wales in last Thursday evening’s 3-0 friendly win over Wales.

Tuchel’s team enjoyed a dominant evening and raced into a 3-0 lead within 20 minutes, as Morgan Rogers, Ollie Watkins and Bukayo Saka found the net.

And while Tuchel was left delighted with his side’s performance, he was far from pleased with the support that his players received in a sold-out Wembley. And England fans wasted no time in responding to the manager during the early stages of Tuesday night’s World Cup qualifier in Latvia.

Away supporters at the Daugava Stadium could be heard chanting: “Thomas Tuchel, we’ll sing when we want” and “Thomas Tuchel, are we loud enough for you?”

England knew that victory in Riga would secure their place in next summer’s World Cup finals. The Three Lions have a 100 per cent record in qualifying so far.

Tuchel’s team may then have to wait a long time between their last competitive contest and their first fixture of the World Cup campaign. However, it is not a problem that the German wishes to think too much about.

“This will be a long break. But it is what it is,” he said pre-match. “The point is to not to not dwell on problems, but to find solutions and to turn it around and find solutions that then we have maybe an advantage out of it.

“My thoughts are not about November now because it will change a lot if we can fix qualification or not. So this is where all the energy goes at the moment.

“When I say I expect a win, I expect first of all a performance that makes us the deserved winners. I know good enough it’s never guaranteed to win football matches. Too many things can happen.

“Luck and being unlucky is such a big part of the game. But we are in the moment where we expect the next one, another good performance and top performance from us – and that should give us all the chances to win and then if we do that we talk about the next step but before we have focus on Latvia.”
