England fans say ‘bring it on’ as Sweden attempt Lioness Euro defeat revenge

Sweden are hoping to take the Euros title for the first time in over 40 years after the Lionesses were responsible for knocking them out of the Euros three years ago

England fans have told Sweden to ‘bring it on’ as the two nations prepare to clash for a place in the Women’s Euro semi-final tonight. The Lionesses will take on Sweden in Zurich’s sold-out Letzigrund stadium at 8pm BST in what is sure to be an explosive rematch between the teams.

The women in yellow and blue are out for ‘revenge’ after the Lionesses knocked them out in the semi-finals of the last tournament in 2022. But a confident army of England fans have told them to ‘bring it on’, adding they can’t wait to see the Lionesses win again.

Wearing an Arsenal shirt on the streets of Zurich, Jodie Morris, 22, from Eastbourne said: “I’m very excited, it’s going to be a very good game.

“I like it when the fans of both teams start to give each other a bit of stick because it’s more of a rivalry and makes it a bit more fun. So if they want revenge, bring it on. When we win we’ll be chanting in the streets.”

Leicester city fans, Janice Phillips and Jane Turner from Groby, Leicestershire, had flown to Switzerland to cheer on the Lionesses after taking a punt and buying tickets for both quarter-finals. Janice, 56, said: “Sweden are a good team but they’re playing England and I think we are stronger than we have ever been.

“I’m so excited I haven’t even put my England shirt on yet because I want to save it for the game and savour every moment. We’re going to have a nice breakfast and then head over to the stadium to watch the players arrive and soak up every minute of the atmosphere.”

And the fans aren’t the only ones ready for a fierce clash. Speaking about what it means to her to put on an England shirt, Lioness Lucy Bronze said: “I will give anything, and I will give everything when I play in an England shirt.. because I just love playing for England so much.”

The Swedes last won the Women’s Euros in 1984, the first year it was ever played. But they are determined to take the title from the reigning champions telling the Mirror it’s all they think about.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Sweden’s Magda Eriksson said: “It would mean everything to me. It’s something I’ve dreamt about since we qualified for this tournament, it’s been there in the back of my mind, fuelling me and giving me motivation in everything I do in my daily life.

“But there’s a long way left and… I feel like we go into every tournament knowing that there is a chance that we can do it, and we’ve been so close in so many tournaments that I’ve participated in, so of course, that is why ultimate dream and it would mean everything.”
