A man has been left fuming after he was allegedly asked to swap seats on a plane so a child could enjoy the view – and even claims the father was left ‘glaring’ at him
A man has been left outraged after an ‘entitled’ dad ordered him to swap seats on a plane so his child could enjoy the views from the window.
He shared how, returning from visiting family in Brazil, he purposefully booked himself a window seat in advance to make sure he had something to look at during the long-haul flight. But upon reaching his coveted spot, he got a “cheeky” nudge from another traveller.
On Reddit, he described the awkward exchange: “On the way back, this stranger who was seated on the middle plane seats across from me with his child asked me if I could give up my window seat for his kid. I said, ‘sorry, but no. I paid an extra 200 dollars for this seat’.”
Expecting a reasonable reaction, he was instead met with a cold stare. He recounted: “I was expecting him to be understanding and mind his own business but instead he just glared at me.”
Feeling miffed, he popped his headphones back on and returned to his music and scenery – only to be interrupted moments later by an air stewardess’s tap.
Continuing his tale, he wrote: “A flight attendant taps me on the shoulder asking me if I could give up my seat for his kid. I pulled out my ticket and the receipt I got when I paid extra for the window seat and told her ‘no, I paid extra for window seat.'”.

Getting an apologetic response from the attendant, he witnessed, “She said, ‘Okay, sorry to bother you sir.’ I saw her walk back to him and say, ‘no for me’,” – which prompted one final glare from the disgruntled father.
“I think he really thought he could get the flight attendant to take his side and force me out of my seat.”
Content with his firm stance, he went online to query what others might have done under similar circumstances. One user replied pointedly: “If your kid having a window seat is so important then buy one yourself.”
Another chimed in suggesting a clever comeback for future reference: “If a situation like this happens again, let them know that there is a £500 surcharge in order for you to move.”
Someone else weighed in on the matter: “When I flew alone I really didn’t cared where I sat and didn’t paid extra for a pre-chosen seat. But, if you do care about sitting together, then pay more and don’t harass other people to give up their seat for you.”
Yet another user shared a positive experience: “I’ve switched seats before as a single flyer, but never at my expense. I actually got a way better seat with way more leg room.”
One more response to the dilemma was clear-cut: “If I paid extra for a certain place then I’m going to stay there, or get paid a higher amount to move. The entitled father should’ve thought about his child when buying the tickets.”
