Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is determined to help bring the best out of Mykhailo Mudryk amid the Ukrainians struggles since moving to the Premier League last year
Enzo Maresca has told Mykhailo Mudryk he needs to change if is to salvage his Chelsea career this season.
The Ukraine international, 23, joined the Blues in a blockbuster £89million transfer back in January 2023 but has failed to deliver since making the move to Stamford Bridge.
He was given a chance to impress by Maresca in Thursday night’s 2-0 win over Servette but the Italian could be seen getting frustrated with the winger on the touchline during the match.
Maresca would then go on to give an honest assessment of Mudryk’s struggles post-match before highlighting the work he and his team will do in a bid to help the former Shakhtar Donetsk star rediscover his best form.
Maresca said: “I think this is Misha, this is Mudryk, in terms of not only tonight, but in terms of since he joined the club. I think he had some good moments and then some moments like flipping a coin. You don’t know if it’s one thing or the other thing. This is Misha. If he can become more consistent, he can take one step forward.”
The former Leicester boss added: “We are going to try and help him change. He needs to try and understand that we are going to give him the ball in the last third. And when he’s there [it’s about] taking the right decision. For me, most of the mistakes from Misha is not about the quality or the technical mistake, it’s about the choice.

“Sometimes he has to play and he tries to do something different and we lose the ball. Sometimes he has to go one-v-one, it’s about decision making. Hopefully we can help him and improve that.”
While Maresca could be seen losing his cool with Mudryk on the touchline, the new Blues boss admitted he wasn’t completely satisfied with the team’s overall performance either.
Some fans booed at half-time with the score goalless but Maresca said: “We are learning how to manage the game.
“Keeping the ball is the correct intention at 2-0 up but where it’s not good is in our half. We need to do the same on the opposite side. It was important to win the game with nine changes. There were many good things.”
