European city just 3 hours from UK that’s still sunny in autumn and has £2 pints

By staff15 October 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

Albania is a country packed full of culture and history — and it’s also one of the cheapest places in Europe for a holiday.

For a stunning autumn getaway, there’s no need to spend big or journey far. In fact, one of the most breath taking destinations is practically on our doorstep.

Albania, brimming with culture and steeped in intriguing history, is an incredible country that won’t break the bank. Even better, its capital, Tirana, has been named the cheapest place in Europe for a holiday by Time Out.

Time Out Europe reports that this Albanian gem is one of the most affordable places to dine and discover, with museum tickets ranging from £2.50 to £5. Plus, you can enjoy a pint for a mere £2.24.

The history of Albania is captivating. From 1945 to 1985, the entire nation was virtually inaccessible due to the rule of communist dictator Enver Hoxha.

If you’re keen to delve deeper into this history, a trip to the National Historical Museum is essential, reports the Express.

The museum doesn’t gloss over Albania’s sometimes harsh history and is filled with fascinating artefacts. Be sure to allocate enough time, as a visit here can take up to three hours.

Also worth a visit is the House of Leaves — a building once used as a medical clinic during World War 2 and then by the Gestapo under German occupation.

Immediately after the war ended, it was reclaimed by the Albanian communist regime and used as a security office for investigations.

Tirania, known for its vibrant nightlife, offers more than just museums. If you fancy a cocktail on your night out, it’ll only cost you £6.

Another perk is that autumn temperatures in Tirania are far more pleasant than the UK, usually around 25C throughout September and October.

With a flight time from the UK of just over three hours, it’s an ideal weekend getaway.

Now is the perfect time to discover this amazing city. Albania is already gaining popularity among British holidaymakers, with research by Saga Holidays indicating that UK searches for holidays in Tirana have increased by 91% year-on-year.

This suggests that Brits are seeking sunshine and value beyond the usual beachside favourites.
