Ex-PM Rishi Sunak gets another new job as he scrambles to stay in spotlight

Former Tory PM Rishi Sunak – who is still MP for Richmond and Northallerton – is scrambling to get back into the spotlight and will now write a weekly newspaper column

Rishi Sunak has got ANOTHER new job since being booted out of No10 as he racks up the titles on his CV.

The former Tory PM – who is still the serving MP for Richmond and Northallerton – is scrambling to get back into the spotlight. He will now write a weekly newspaper column – the latest job he’s picked up since leading the Tories to their worst election result in history.

Mr Sunak will become a weekly columnist for the Sunday Times newspaper. He will contribute to the paper’s Business section in print and online from this weekend.

The politician – who the newspaper described as “an illustrious and respected figure” – will write on a variety of subjects including business, technology, politics and the economy.

Earlier this month, it emerged that tech bro Mr Sunak has taken up advisory roles at tech giants Microsoft and Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company.

And in the summer, it was announced he had joined Goldman Sachs – where he worked in the early 2000s before joining politics. At the time, the bank said Mr Sunak would join as a senior adviser and welcomed his “unique perspectives and insights” on global politics and the economy.

Mega-rich Mr Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty are worth £640million, according to the 2025 Sunday Times rich list.

The Tory MP’s fees for his new newspaper column will be paid to The Richmond Project, an education charity founded by Mr Sunak and Ms Murty which helps kids improve their maths skills.

Mr Sunak’s appointment at the Sunday Times has been cleared by ACOBA, the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments which provides advice for Ministers and senior Civil Servants on taking up appointments after leaving office.

Mr Sunak said: “As a long-time reader of The Sunday Times business pages, I’m honoured to be joining a great team as a columnist. In an era of profound change, I’m really looking forward to a weekly conversation with readers about the forces reshaping the world economy, from global politics to technology.”

Ben Taylor, editor of The Sunday Times, said: “I am delighted to welcome such an illustrious and respected figure to the team. Rishi’s vast expertise and brilliant mind will help readers navigate what is an increasingly challenging and complex business landscape.

“His experience is unrivalled – on the world stage and in government – and we feel confident that he will be ‘appointment to read’ every weekend.”
