Exact dates for FIVE day UK heatwave revealed as temperatures to reach 36C

Weather maps turn red again later this month with sweltering conditions expected up and down the country in a five day heatwave where temperatures could reach 36C

Brits are set for further scorching weather later this month with a five day heatwave where temperatures reach 36C.

The UK saw plenty of sunshine and dry spells with a succession of heat waves so far this year but it has been a mixed start to August. Storm Floris brought heavy rain and ferocious winds earlier this week especially to the north of the country and since then the weather has continued to be unsettled. But while we are likely to continue to see sunshine and showers through the weekend, temperatures are expected to climb into the middle of the month.

And then maps from WXCharts show a five-day period from August 19 to 23 where temperatures could reach 36C. The maps turn a dark red with the mercury rising to a peak on August 23 and the warmest areas are in the southeast of England. It comes after an exciting heatwave forecast with maps revealing the exact date a 39C heat plume will scorch the UK.

At midday on August 23 for much of central and southern England the temperature is in the 30Cs while in northern England it reaches the high 20Cs.

But it is August 22 when generally the temperatures are highest across the country with the mercury reaching the high 20Cs in northern Scotland. It is set to be notably cooler though in Scotland a day later where it is not likely to get warmer than the mid to high teens.

Generally for the second half of August we are expected to see high pressure more in control. From Sunday, temperatures will begin to rise across southern parts of the UK, as the remnants of Tropical Storm Dexter, draws warm air up from the southwest across the UK, states the Met Office.

Temperatures are expected to exceed 30°C in places across parts of central, southern and eastern England on Monday and Tuesday, next week.

Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist, Steven Keates, said: “We’re confident that temperatures will increase markedly by the start of next week, reaching the low 30s Celsius in parts of England on Monday and perhaps the mid 30s in a few places on Tuesday.

“However, the length of this warm spell is still uncertain, and it is possible that high temperatures could persist further into next week, particularly in the south. Ex-Dexter sets the wheels in motion for an uptick in temperatures, but the weather patterns then maintaining any hot weather are rather more uncertain”.

The Met Office predicts for the period August 22 to September 5: “High pressure, and therefore largely settled conditions overall, appears more likely at first. Although dry weather is likely to dominate, periods of rain or showers and thunderstorms may develop at times.

“Above average temperatures overall seem most likely, with the potential for further hot spells to develop, especially in the east and south. By the turn of the month, there are signals for high pressure to become less dominant with perhaps a greater chance of some rain, possibly more likely in the south at first, though there is some uncertainty in this aspect of the forecast.”
