Exact times to shop at Aldi so you can get up to 75% off food

There are several ways to make the food shopping a little less expensive at Aldi

With a few more weeks left of the summer holidays, Aldi is stepping in to help families stay on budget this season. Many parents continue to spend hundreds of extra pounds on food shopping, with their kids staying at home more during the school break.

Throughout the UK summer holidays, families can expect to spend an average of £401 on groceries and snacks, according to Utility Warehouse. This is in addition to other holiday expenses like childcare and day trips, which can significantly stretch a household budget to its limit.

Families can make their money go further during the summer holidays, and beyond, by using these smart tips. From the best times to shop in-store, to simple tips for stretching the weekly shop a little further, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket is offering practical support to make the most of the rest of the holidays.

Whether you’re stocking up for a picnic or planning a family BBQ, choosing the right time to visit can make all the difference. Aldi bosses claim that the quietest shopping times during the summer holidays are early mornings between 8am and 10am, late afternoons from 4pm to 5pm, and evenings between 8pm and 10pm.

Making the most of these ‘quiet times’, Aldi shoppers can take advantage of various deals to make the food shop that little less expensive. Unlike other supermarkets, Aldi doesn’t use yellow stickers to mark its discounted stock.

Instead, staff use red labels on bakery, meat, and deli items nearing their best-before dates. These items often receive significant markdowns, with discounts of up to 75% depending on how close it is to the date when Aldi staff can no longer sell the products that are still perfectly safe to eat.

While specific times can vary, staff tend to start marking down items towards the end of the day as stores prepare for closing, Aldi claims. So, making the most of the 8pm and 10pm ‘quiet times’ should offer up some bargains that most shoppers never see.

Savvy shoppers don’t have to compromise on food quality as Aldi regularly offers great deals on healthy fruit and vegetables in its ‘Super Six’ section. Every fortnight, Aldi offers six fruit or vegetable items at extra-low prices compared to their usual value.

You can find out what the Super Six items are by looking online before heading to the shops. This is a good chance to stock up and freeze any suitable items you won’t eat right away.

Some lucky families might even be able to cover a large portion of their food bill if they win a daily supermarket competition. Each day in August, one family can win a £50 Aldi voucher by emailing their name and address to [email protected].

The Summer Support Scheme was launched to demonstrate the supermarket’s support for parents and carers and benefit shoppers across the country. All the terms and conditions are listed here.

Parents who have, or will soon be, welcoming a baby to the family can also apply for the Mamia New Parent Fund. Just send a receipt of your latest Mamia nappy purchase to [email protected] for a chance to win a £100 voucher.

The scheme was launched in early 2025 after research found that two-thirds of new parents admitted that the financial impact of having a child was bigger than they’d expected. For full terms and conditions, go here.
