Canine behaviourist Will Atherton has explained exactly why he doesn’t get on with one of the most popular dog breeds out there – he labelled them ‘aloof’ and ‘drama queens’

An expert dog trainer has explained how there is one popular breed he just doesn’t get on with.

Canine behaviourist Will Atherton has more than 908,000 followers on TikTok, where he shares dog training tricks and tips. He also gives advice on which breeds are suitable for different people.

In a recent video he was asked: “Why do you hate Siberian Huskies so much?” Will explained he actually used to have a Siberian Husky, and that she was one of the first dogs he ever rescued. “We were going to rehome her, and my parents fell in love with her, so she ended up living with my parents for 12 years, and actually passed away last year,” he explained.

He has worked with many more Huskies since becoming a professional canine behaviourist. Will stressed he doesn’t “hate” the breed, nor does he hate any breed, but went on: “I just think that certain breeds have certain requirements and meet certain lifestyles better than others.

“And Siberian Huskies don’t like to look up to people for guidance and direction, they’re very independent, and I can find that they’re often aloof and drama queens. And when my [training] system is built on the relationship in which you’re the dog’s loving leader and they look up to you for guidance and direction, that just doesn’t mesh very well.”

Will’s video racked up more than 300,000 views, and loads of his followers rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts on the breed. One said: “I have one, would never get one again.” To which another user responded: “Same, I love her and wouldn’t change her but wouldn’t get another one.”

Another comment read: “That is sooo true I’ve got a Siberian Husky mix German shepherd and she only listen when it suits her.” A fourth said: “Dog hardware, cat operating system. Makes them incredibly tricky. They’re stubborn, they’re escape artists, they have a metric tonne of energy and they sing the song of their people on a whim.”
